Fire

Ever have to build and tend to a fire for an extended period of time? It can be interesting to do. A fire is an analogy to many things. Everything you do to a fire affects it in some way, however small. However, once it's going the effects of smaller things become less noticeable. Also, the more you feed a fire the faster it consumes. Spreading out the fire cools it down, raking it together focuses the heat. Covering the fire in extinguishes it, giving it plenty of air helps it burn, but too much air too early can put it out. Putting too much wood on the fire early can stop it from ever starting, and putting too little on it will stop the flames, but there will normally be coals to start it again for a while.
I was taking care of a fire the other day, and I thought it was a shame we all never have the chance to talk around one. I think it would be an interesting experience.

Ever burn an old, dry Christmas tree? Shit creates a nearly three-story towering inferno, whose blazing heat can be felt from 15 feet away.

Its interesting to consider the development of humans using fire and how that plays into our modern day enchantment with it. Is any other species compelled to go towards a fire? None that I have seen.

My first acid trip, i took 2 hits and we ended up trying to build a fire. As we sat around it i got the idea that it be would wise to kill the other male to reserve breeding rights with the one female that was with us. The other male was weak anyway and he would prove useful.. for a little while anyway

Ah yes. That is an odd behavior for them, since they often do it to their ultimate demise (where as we embrace fire to our great benefit).

My dogs like to be near a fire too. Most do.

I dont know. I generally think they like to be near humans, and the fire is incidental. If its cold, and they trust the humans near the fire I can see them liking it. Of course dogs are special, since we evolved together and share so much. Since they did develop somewhat parallel to us, its not unreasonable to think they are more tolerant of fire than most animals.

My gramps had an open fireplace. You could find the dog in there alone, dreaming by the fire. Didn't matter if anyone was in there or not. They love the warmth. They don't seem to stare into it like we do. Staring at a fire is fairly easy access to a flow state imo.

Ever start a fire in a dried-up clump of twigs in the middle of a national forest during summer?

My dog is scared of fire...or more accurately the popping sounds of a fire, following a close call with a firework when she was a puppy. Usually take her until February each winter until she get's over it and hangs out with us in the living room .

I set the woods on fire once. Got my first warning from the fire marshall. Seems a ticket would have been the better choice as the warning was less than effective...

There we go, now we can all sit around a campfire and shoot the shit.
It's one of the most ironic things about this community, the one thing we would all enjoy doing ( sitting around a campfire together with shrooms for all ) is the one thing we can't ever really do.
