The hippie has read this phase , Perceiving the color of a spore print ( for example, between a purple-brown spore print and a rusty-brown spore print) can be a distinction with Deadly potential!! Obviously, people who are color impared should not be the ones making critical decisions about spore color.

it came from the book called, Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World by PAUL STAMETS

So which is it purple-brown, rusty-brown or are u color blind????

Where did you get this print? Did you take it from a wild specimen? Did someone send it to you?

I recently got a Lipi Yai (sp?) print from a buddy and it is brown.  Another friend says that this is quite normal as I was kind of freaked out too .

I don't think there is a Panaeolous (Copelandia) mexicana species. But if it were a true Panaeolus then the spores would be jet black without a hint of brown. It sounds like the name is made up.

Since it is a commercially produced spore print I think you can assume it is something active.

Purple brown sounds like some sort of Psilocybe species. It could be Psilocybe mexicana which has fairly brown spores or Psilocybe cubensis which is usually more of a purple black, but not always. The size of the print will give you a clue to the identity. If its fairly large you can rule out mexicana.

If you want confirmation of species you can send me a tiny fragment of the print for analysis. PM me for details.
