Hello guys Just wondered if anyone knew if the 25.000k growlights are any good for mushrooms? They give as much light in the blue spectrum as the red spectrum, but i was thinking 25000k might be UV or something??? I tried doing a search for it, but i didnt found a single post about 25.000k lights.

25000k is a bit much.
some cars have xenon light with 25000k;
mushrooms need the daylight spectrum, somewhere from 5000 to 7000K.

Seems unuseful but I doubt anyone has really tried it.

sounds like you are just using your old lights for herb growing on the mushroom grow...I don't think it is necessary,but you can try it and tell us how it goes to answer future questions....FOR SCIENCE!

Never heard of a grow light in the 25,000 kelvin range as that would be retarded.HPS lamps have a kelvin rating of 2000-3500k;lot's of yellow/orange light similar to the natural sunlight we get on earth in the fall/autumn.MH lamps have a kelvin rating of 2600-7200k withe 5500k-6500k being most popular;the MH bulbs with a lower kelvin rating are like 430w HPS only that they have more yellow/orange/red in their light to promote better flowering.
Mushrooms tend to like a bulb with a daylight rating or 5500k-6500k spectrum.You can certainly use other spectrums of light,but lights with a kelvin rating between 5500k and 6500k work best.

Well its actually my NEW growlight for my baby mimosas And its not retarded at all. Its used to promote both growth and flowering through its red and blue spectres. If you see my profilepic you see the light im talking about.
Anyway i just wondered if i could use it for both. I normally use only 2700k cfls for my mushrooms, which works like a charm. So its not like it really matters.
But i was pretty sure the fact that it was in the blue spectrum was what mattered, and not the Kelvin thing... I used to believe any 6500k light was in the blue spectrum, but kelvin and color is not the same...

They were rather expensive as well. 1080Nok/~120euro, but this was for the fitting, 2X55W cfls, and shipping. They also had some 10.000K lights in the blue spectrum, only for growth. I would guess these are exellent for mushrooms.

Okay, i tried using the light for a semi-small grow, and the 6 jars im currently growing had 2 huatlas with pretty good pinning, 2 pensacolas with medium good pinning, and 2 orissas with not so good pinning. But i had some problems getting the humidity to stay above 75-80% for some unknown reason (maybe the heat???), so this have probably affected the results. Also the jars are placed somewhat far from the light, as im having maybe 100 cacti and a pereskiopsis on the top shelf, but i guess the lighting is not very important, as long as it gets some light. The orissas looks like they are getting FAT btw Have not grown these before, but from the look of it so far, it has a very good chance to be my (cube)strain of choice in the future. 10 big mushrooms are alot more fun to harvest and rinse than 50 small mushrooms. Not to mention the picture-factor.

Mushroom growth and pinning will peak at 6500K, based on thousands of tests. Color and color temperature are closely related. 25000K is likely to be as mediocre as 2700K. RR
