Texans support HB 715, decriminalization of pot!
    #1459419 - 04/15/03 04:03 AM (21 years, 7 days ago)

I realize this is my first post and its a little odd starting off with a political topic such as this, but I feel this is what I need to post up first. The activism in Texas is at an all time high when it comes to marijuana. The best news yet is a bill that would decriminalize small amounts of pot has been introduced into the Texas House.

I am urging all Texans to support this quickly growing petition that supports House Bill 715, decriminalization of small amounts of marijuana. The petition has already gained over 100 signatures. Now is the time to sign it and spread the word!

Recipients :

Rick Perry, Governor, TX
Steve Ogden, Sen., TX 5
David Dewhurst, Lt. Governor, TX

The petition reads:

Texans around this state are urging you to support HB 715! HB 715 would not set up a regulated market for marijuana, it would simply slap a fine rather than incarcerate the user if it is less than an ounce.

With so many other problems plaguing society, the cost of punishing marijuana users outweighs any gain that might be achieved by their incarceration. Let?s turn our attention away from marijuana and work to solve our most pressing problems.

Decreasing the penalties for marijuana will not result in increased use. For example, in states that have already removed criminal penalties for possession of marijuana for personal use, there has been virtually no effect on either marijuana use or on related attitudes about marijuana use among young people.

Further, these states are saving a tremendous amount on enforcement costs. That saved revenue could be returned to taxpayers or appropriated for more important public concerns.

Please come out and support HB 715!

If I was in Texas I would be doing all I could to help this thing pass.

That would be an amazing event if passed!

Do you think the Federal government and DEA would fuck with Texas? They probably think Californians are hippie pushovers, but Texans are mean gun-totin cowboys. This would be a huge blow to the drug war.

Americans need to get these bills attached as "riders", or whatever they are called, like attached to the Iraq war bill.  Beat them at their own game!

Ill let you in on a little secret.  The pot you get from here is just "american pot", the kind we sell to obvious americans who dont know much better.  There is nothing substandard about true canadian bud!

If Texas decrimilizes it, it really won't do me any good since i live in Michigan. But you crazy canooks always give me hope in the legalization dept....even though it's false hope, i think.

I would tend to agree...I can already picture Bush getting his panties in a knot if we legalized weed.

"Terrorist in our back yard!" "canooks gone rabid..." "cretain is really bin laden!!!" etc....lol....

America would conquer us without one casualty, and everyone would go to jail before we stopped smoking pot.

Not Americans in General since I know that the majority would have no problem with it, but the Governement is another matter altogether. It would be like "How dare those Canadians disrespect our laws..." If they supported it, they would in effect be admitting that they were wrong all this time, and that the war on drugs was a scam. (yes, I do realize that the war on drugs isn't just on pot)
