Ok, so I have been lurking on the site now for quite some time doing as much research as I can. and finally decided to go out today (not my first time). Me and a good friend of mine decided to walk through a local cow field as expected we found plenty of garbage mushrooms, but one kind growing in dung in a shaded area caught my attention. At this point it is very very small, but growing in very dark so it gets me to thinking that the spores may end up jet black. I'll post pics as soon as they are big enough to get any info out of. Really what I want to know if someone could give me a heads up to stake my claim or move on? General info: Area, cow field found under trees in shade When "smooshed" for lack of a better term they stain your hand black dead/decaying wood near by close to a small stream weather has been between 80-90 100% humidity and warm rain. If anyone can point me in the direction of what the "baby" mushrooms in my PA area look like I'd be glad to take a look (yes I have read the shrooms that grow in my area section)
Thanks in advance for any info hope I didn't piss anyone off Zacchaeous

i don't think anyone is going to tell you what 'baby' mushrooms look like, but if you found other species of fully mature fruits, just wait for these to fruit and post some pictures, from your description i just picture a crap covered/muddy dark corner of some farm that you saw some black blobs from 100 feet away, but keep looking and take some pictures if you can

Right, that's exactly what I didn't want to do. Also clearly just because the spores my be black doesn't mean I'm going to go rush out and eat a hand full of mushrooms. On average how long does a mushroom take to grow to the point of identification? because these lil guys are prob no more than a day or so old. Also I must say I'm quite surprised at how nice, and fast the responses are

From what I know they just let it go, not saying they wouldn't scoop it up for fertilizer. But I'm going on another shrooming trip today, and just wanted to know if it was ok to get some quality pics just for some general ids (I just would like to know what I'm coming across). Is it ok to post them in this thread or should I open a new one (I really like this community and I really don't wanna piss a mod off )

It'd be just as easy to use this thread. Also, if you don't know how to post pictures on shroomery,

Zach the orange mushroom growing from hardwood is a good edible -- it's either Laetiporus sulphureus or Laetiporus cincinnatus depending on the color of the pore surface (cincinnatus will have white pores, sulphureus will have yellow pores).
