Video Card

So im looking into upgrading my video card as when I look at windows experience index it rates everything alright accept like a 3.5 on the vid card....I play a lot of Starcraft2 and League of Legends.... I do have a buddy from work helping and he got a bunch of campatible Vid Cards and made a wish list for me of them... my only problem is that all the cards he got me are from what I can tell the same... they are pretty much all 1GB... I am not sure but I think I told him I am on a little bit of a budget but the prices on these are only about $100 and I could afford about 150-200 if that will do me any better.... Any Suggestions?

1GB describes the amount of video RAM available on the cards. It has nothing to do with the actual speed of the card.
It seems as though the games you play are not very graphics heavy so I'd suggest an ATI 5770 or a nVidia GTS450. Both cards are fairly cheap these days.
Make sure that your power supply is enough to handle the new card.

Well damn.... I just talked to a friend on the phone (different friend) who is really into computers too and he said my comp definately is shitty.... aparently there is not a PCI Express 2.0 slot in my comp so the only thing i can get is a PCI 1.1 card and there is only like 3 of them available and none offer a HDMI slot... and I dont have a DVI slot on my monitor/tv

Your only option is to get a new computer.
A PCI 1.1 card in this day and age will be useless.

too late now I just ordered one a lil bit ago... but surely I will be able to at least run smoothly with medium graphics on Starcraft2... right now I have to run on very low graphics... I have turned it up to medium a time or two and it looks so much better but it starts etting a little laggy so always have to go back to very low... SC2 can be VERY graphis intensive if your PC can handle it but i would be satisfied with just being able to kick it up to medium...
Right now I am running an integrated video so i figured for $30 I could at least give this a shot... EVGA 512-P2-N430-RX that is what I ordered....

The card you said you ordered is a PCI-Express card. I thought you said you didn't have a PCI-E slot?
Also, a nVidia 7200 is BELOW the minimum requirements for SC2.

oh shit you gotta be kidding me that shit is less than the minimum... i did notice my paypal account had a one digit difference on zip code and it said it would be rejected if there were any difference... but they both work for my house so i dunno maybe i will get lucky and they wont ship it/charge me... but no my specs just say PCI Express x16 (one slot) and PCI Express x1 (three slots)... it doesnt say anything about PCI Express 2.0 ............ does that matter? is it maybe a 2.0 because if so I was planning on getting quite a bit better one as I said in the first post...

also I just looked at my SC2 specs... it says MINIMUM REQUIREMENT - 128MB nVidia GeForce 6600 GT or ATI radeon 9800 or better....
or Recomended Specs - 512 MB nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX or Radeon HD 3870 or better....
now just by looking at the numbers nVidia 7200 sounds better than 6600??? again I dont know all that much about it but the damn number is higher???
also what I have currently is an ATI Radeon 3000 IGP...

A PCI-E 2.0 card will work in a PCI-E 1.0 slot. It will just run slightly (and I mean slightly) slower than it is supposed to.
Cancel the order for the 7200 and order this; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150482
$100 and it will play all your games on the highest settings.
A 7200 series card is slower than a 6600. The speed of the card is dictated by the second number of the name. A 7600 would be the 7 series equivalent of a 6600.

You can cancel the order before it gets shipped. Once it is shipped it is too late. Did you order the $30 one on newegg?
I am sure that a 2.0 PCI-E card will run on an older slot. They are forwards compatible. You simply won't be able to take advantage of any of the 2.0 improvements. It'll work as though it was a 1.0 card.

Ok i figured out how to cancel (yea $30 one)... now the card you recommend will definately require me to upgrade my power supply... any way you can reccomend one for me? my POS only has a 250w
Ok sweet but it will still be QUITE an upgrad from what ive got now right?

Here's a 530w for $40: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152028
This will be a HUGE upgrade from the integrated graphics. A HD4850 is a high-end card. It will play games like Crysis on high settings.

Damn, I had a PCI-E 2.0 GeForce 6800 256MB that only required a 350W power supply to get rid of for cheap too...I wish I was on earlier.

An old GF6800 would not be an upgrade for him. A GF6800 is obsolete as is, the HD4850 he ordered will allow him to play games for years to come at medium to high settings.

Indeed the HD card is way better than a 6800, I agree. I'm an ATI fan anyways. Right on.

I'm an ATI fan too. Unfortunately, I'm running a nVidia GTS 250 at the moment.
Seeing as how you have the old GF6800 to get rid of, what did you replace it with?

I replaced it with a Sapphire HD 5670 1GB that I LOVE!
This card is awesome, and overclocks 16% both on core and memory and still stays low on temps.
I can play Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3, Neverwinter Nights 2, and Call of Duty 4 with all the graphics turned up to max at 1024 X 768.
I coulnd't be happier, and I didn't even have to upgrade my Dell 350W power supply, as it requires no external power connector
