Friends or Foes?
    #14600105 - 06/12/11 09:59 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I Went walking this morning, and I just happened to look at this super green fertilized lawn, that always has tons of different types of mushrooms growing in it.This morning,a different type caught my eye,and I'm pretty sure they are foes or cincts.what do you guys think??? Spore print appears black, because that's the color that rubbed off on my hands, and inside the bag :-)

They look more like psathyrella to me, though I could be wrong. You'd need to take a proper spore print anyway on some foil or white paper. On other mediums, dark brown spores could appear black.

Off-topic, but did you see that plant in your sig, or did you find that picture?

got ya,I actually don't care enough to do a spore print,I was just though it would be cool if they were cincts,as I've never found them growing in a lawn before.Oh yeah, that cannabis pic was found on the net :-)

They look like Panaeolus acuminatus.

Just a guess based on the cap shape, lack of appendiculate veil remnants, and especially the long, red stem color.

of course, bobzimmer knows a hell of a lot more than I do, and I agree with him, if I ABSOLUTELY had to call it something else, the next best fit I can find is lacrymaria velutina

I see where your coming from but the stems on some of them are too red and too thin for those. Lacrymaria usually grow clustered to grouped and are a little bit stouter usually. If you can fit thirty of them on a sheet of note book paper; they're pretty small.

I'm no mushroom expert, but I'm almost certain these are of the Panaeolus species.I have found no psathyrella that look anything remotely like one I found.

L. velutina-grows in grass, has blackish spores, and could be out right now. nothing else I saw had any 2 of these charictoristics, of course P.acuminatis has these and the red-cartilaginous stem, plus it looks like a pan

I'm thinking that they might be pan foes that are a little rotten. Do you plan on making a spore print?

Went on a quick hunt to get more of the possible pans.  Wouldn't have even bothered with these if I hadn't read your post.  Check it out
