I've been bitten by a brown recluse twice.  It was way less bad than I imagined.  The pictures of bites on the interwebz are terrifying, but mine were pretty mild.  My roommate a couple years ago caught a brown widow and kept it in an ant farm in the front room.  There was a lot of apprehension that something would compromise the container and some people really hated that it was there, but she never bothered anyone.  Ate all of the ants and died after a few months.
Spiders are real chill with me.  I don't go sticking my hands into places they probably live anymore and they leave me be for the most part.  Once in a while they remind me I need to vacuum by biting my feet at night.  All in all I like 'em.  They have ways of promoting creative organization.

i've seen those pics on the interwebz, scary shit. at summer camp one time a brown recluse invaded our cabin so we ended up destroying it with a hammer. the thing was probably the size of my face.

I'm pretty fascinated by spiders. Considering they are predators and eat a lot of pests I don't like having in my garden, I let them live.

Last summer I had a ton of crab spiders in my back yard. I would kill mosquitoes and drop it on their webs and watch them go to work.
Pretty fun to do while you're smoking.

I don't know if I would ever have a pet spider, but I can certainly appreciate how awesome they are
