Friends or Foes?
    #14600105 - 06/12/11 09:59 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I Went walking this morning, and I just happened to look at this super green fertilized lawn, that always has tons of different types of mushrooms growing in it.This morning,a different type caught my eye,and I'm pretty sure they are foes or cincts.what do you guys think??? Spore print appears black, because that's the color that rubbed off on my hands, and inside the bag :-)

They look more like psathyrella to me, though I could be wrong. You'd need to take a proper spore print anyway on some foil or white paper. On other mediums, dark brown spores could appear black.

Off-topic, but did you see that plant in your sig, or did you find that picture?

got ya,I actually don't care enough to do a spore print,I was just though it would be cool if they were cincts,as I've never found them growing in a lawn before.Oh yeah, that cannabis pic was found on the net :-)

They look like Panaeolus acuminatus.

Just a guess based on the cap shape, lack of appendiculate veil remnants, and especially the long, red stem color.

of course, bobzimmer knows a hell of a lot more than I do, and I agree with him, if I ABSOLUTELY had to call it something else, the next best fit I can find is lacrymaria velutina

I see where your coming from but the stems on some of them are too red and too thin for those. Lacrymaria usually grow clustered to grouped and are a little bit stouter usually. If you can fit thirty of them on a sheet of note book paper; they're pretty small.

I'm no mushroom expert, but I'm almost certain these are of the Panaeolus species.I have found no psathyrella that look anything remotely like one I found.

L. velutina-grows in grass, has blackish spores, and could be out right now. nothing else I saw had any 2 of these charictoristics, of course P.acuminatis has these and the red-cartilaginous stem, plus it looks like a pan

I'm thinking that they might be pan foes that are a little rotten. Do you plan on making a spore print?

eat a heap and find out if there active or not. The black print shows that they are a panaeolus sp, so they wont harm you if eatin.

They look like the panaeolus subb's i find on my lawn. The subbs i find have long stems to get up and out of the tall grass. They may have addapted to the enviroment

Foes aren;t toxic. So as long as they didn't come from anywhere where you might think it unwise to consume, I say go for it.

aw thats no good

It rains at most every two weeks here. Each time it rains they pop up for the next 3 days.

The mycelium might need time to recover, so its able to fruit agian..

Why do you collect subbs?

Yeah,I found some really big ones that I missed the first time the other day,but they were infested with maggots,so I buried them in my flowerbed.Maybe my bed will sprout some subbs!!! I just added a new top dressing of manure too.I collect them because my friends like mushrooms, and I like to share :-)

Get some horse manure, and spore print all your subbs.

Get some cardbord, and put it in the blender with the prints and and add water.

Make a realy goo'y slurry. Spread it on your garden and put the manure on top, evenly.

They will grow for sure, but it will take awhile.

Dump fruit scraps and lawn clipping on it if you can, it'll help

I'm trying everything with mine,I have flicked, sprayed, and buried prints, and mushrooms in my mnaure enriched flower bed,so if that doesn't work I don't know what will. The next thing I'm trying along with cube spores is spraying some in the cow/horse field.I know if I keep this up,something is bound to pop:grin:

Make a spray bottle of cube spores and water, then pick up the poo, and spray under it. It wont work if you spray the top.
