I've been doing a lot of graphic design stuff lately and am thinking about investing in some kind of tablet. Anyone got recommendations?
I REALLY want a wacon clintiq but they run like 1-2k and it's probably overkill for me. The wacon intuos4 also looks amazing but is still $350. Since it's my first tablet and I'm not even sure how much I'll use it, I probably shouldn't go over $200.
Both of those are really high end, how much of a performance difference is there in the cheaper other brand models (I don't know what's out there really)? I'm well versed in photoshop etc., I want something to compliment this. Not be a gimmick like the tablet pc's I've used. Sensetive enough that it feels like I'm writing on paper but nota boatload of $$$

Stick with Wacom and get the best your budget allows for. I know someone who uses this brand and it works very well.
I think the Intuos model PTK440 would be a great model for around (just a little over) $200
Taken directly off their site:

yeah that looks like a good deal, i'm interested for sure. only thing is that is the small version, and only has a 6x4" active area. i read a lot of reviews that said the extra space on the medium version (8x6) was perfect for a natural drawing feel, but that the small felt constricting.
idk though. i can probably cope with the smaller active area. thanks.

The prices climb very steeply on the bigger models, sadly. :/

trust me the wacom intuos 4 will be the best investment you make. I got a intuos 4 medium on amazon for 159$, was the best investment I've made in a long time. Its so accurate, so precise, sensitive down to a gram. very customizable, I use the mouse for everything, has 5 buttons you can program, which I do for photoshop.
I thought about getting other cheaper tablets when I was in the market for one, but ended up being a wacom. Ive never regretted it. There customer support is amazing, not to mention not having one problem with it the two years I've had it.
