Finally found rye berries * 1
    #14597593 - 06/11/11 07:43 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Appears that here in eastern canada they call them rye kernels, found them at a health food store. Also picked up hardened wheat kernels there. I told the lady my grandmother sent me she does lots of baking and stuff. The lady gave me a senior discount since they were for my "grandma".

I don't know if this is ok to do but...
This is the result of looking for the best price.  They're quick and accurate too.  Just an all around great bargain for rye berries.

That's 10 bux cheaper than i paid getting them locally. But the shipping from US ---> Canada that 19 bux turns to alot more. We even have to pay duty upon delivery here, if buying from US. So it's like 19bux to 60 then tack on duty and your around 70. I have to buy alot of parts from the US for my chevelle and the shipping+duty is just killer. Always tack on atleast 1/3 the listed prices =(

were they from Speerville Flour Mills?

No was Sequoita or some wierd name.

Funny thing is there should be lots of places to get it. I live in a heavy farming community. However everywhere i called asking for rye berries, had no clue what i was talking about. Feed mills o plenty, bet when i call around monday to ask for "rye kernels" i will have better luck as well.

Though these ones are very clean, no dirt in the water on first rinse and only a couple floaters.

Thats most likely because they are food grade from a health food store, you wouldn't be from the valley would you?

Are you sure it's duty you're paying and not GST which covers your health care?  To charge duty would be a violation of NAFTA.

I grow most of my own rye these days, for grain and straw.  I've got a few acres of no-till farmland, growing rye mixed with clover and lupines.  The clover and lupines supply the nitrogen for the rye grain.

Yes it's its called duty tax here. It's supposed to be that you don't pay tax on items made in the US. The catch is most items these days are imported from somewhere else to the US first so you have to pay anyway. Also they have special clauses for luxury items. Any sports car items, jewelry, electronics etc your paying duty on even though there made in the USA. Our government always finds ways to screw us. When going into the states your required to keep all your receipts for anything you buy so you can pay for it again when you go home. This goes for anything brought back physically or having it shipped.

A friend of mine thought he was slick, he had a friend that lived in the US buy his parts for his hotrod and camo ship them labeled as other things. He got away with it for a long time but customs eventually figured it out and went and siezed his car.
