hmmmmmmmmmm. It's impossible to say for sure, from your pics. stropharia roguso-annulata seems possible

likely a Chlorophyllum species, mayybe an Agaricus.. chances are its edible but wait for west coast trusted identifier

I think it's a young specimen, not fully developed that's prob why you couldn't see the gills.

chlorophyllum, you hit it! good work, as soon as you said it, I took another look, and the checking on the cap is exactly like I see on young lepiota americana. Mix that with the browning(that prob. started red) and C. rachodes fits beautifully

If it is Chlorophyllum it seems more likely to be brunneum with the cap color, but im not sure if brunneum stains red also.

You won't know without printing it and that specimen is most likely to young to get a print from.
Although it does seem to have the redish staining as mentioned above which I don't think C. molybdites shows?

They need to really be cooked up anyways, some people react badly to undercooked Chlorophyllum species.
I would turf that one and keep scoping out the spot for some more mature ones. If they turn out to be either of the edible ones they are tasty as anything.
