Lets see your Myco-Lab!!
    #14595483 - 06/11/11 11:17 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

We have shared our faces, our favorites, our books, our pets; how about our labs?

Damn, mine is a fold out card table, desk, magnifying glass, This computer, some paper some foil, an exacto knife, scissors, and a cheap file thing which I like to keep spore prints of all my shroomies in.

Nice lab!  I wish I were that organized!

How do you like that Celestron?

Orginization is my biggest flaw. I actually need to reclaim the draws on the desk, that should make things 100x more easy. I also need to fix my microscope.

This particular Celestron is a piece of crap. It is my buddies, and he bought it for cheap from Amazon but it is a display model or something. The stage doesn't always move when you try to focus, which can be absolutely maddening. We rarely use it, the Swift is WAY better. The only problem with it is that my camera lens is too large to shoot through it!

I have to stay organized, otherwise it is too easy to screw up voucher specimens and such. When trying to manage or collect for an herbarium things NEED to stay in order so mistakes are not made and specimens are not mixed up. Also, it is easy to get backed up when it comes to microscopy, so I need to economize my time as much as possible!

Do you work in the mycology/biology field, or is this just a hobby?

Nice gear! nerd.

I wish my lifestyle was stable enough to set-up a sick permanent lab like that. Doesn't work when your living in a new place every 4 or 5 months.

How do you plan on being employed in this field someday? Ive dreamt of it myself, but there aren't a ton of jobs for Mycologists out there.. Plus im pretty content where im at.

P.S. How did you get the melzers?

I plan on writing a book someday, and would be happy working in any aspect of mycology/ecology/biology. Who knows what will happen, and I am surely expanding my network daily.

I got the Melzers reagent from a mycology professor. Show them you know what you are talking about and they may help you out. He gave my crew that, and a bunch of slides and slip covers when we volunteered at the Microscopy and ecology tables at The Burke Museum's Mushroom Maynia event.
