even purely electronic (synthesised) noise is still music, the electronic device that produces the sounds is the instrument, be that a pc with software or a sound deck and sample and all that shit.

Technically you could say whistling is synthetic instrumentless music, unless you classify the shape of your lips and the passage of sound across them as a redimentary instrument

Oh yeah I agree, but I think the problem many people have with '' electronic '' music is the fact that it can be made by simply '' pasting ', sounds together without having the skills to play an instrument which is also pretty silly considering that composing a song is, in itself, a skill because it still has to '' tell '' something; have a beginning, a development and an ending whereas having the skills to play an instrument doesn't necessarely make you someone who is able to compose a whole song.

Thats such a myth though.  It takes years of knowledge and practice just to use all the software required.  It takes years to learn to synthesise sounds from scratch, it takes years to learn to make music the quality of modern music through EQing compression and mastering techniques.

It really bugs me when people make out like its easy and you just spend a few hours and its done.  They clearly have no idea.  Its takes just as much skill if not more than playing an instrument.

I make electronic, play guitar, rap, play piano and I've been doing them my entire life so I do know what I'm talking about.

Oh and I agree once again. For sure. I made music for 10 years and you're mostly right, although some people do go the easy way and put out stuff in a matter of hours if not minutes.

But I know you're not talking about these.

South Park has been awesome lately

Tuong Lu Kim: Ni hao ma, South Park Erementary?!
Mr. Takayama: Konnichiwa?!
Tuong Lu Kim: How are we arr feering?! [the music stops and the stand back to back] Hey, Mr. Takayama, did you know that China and Japan are actually uh different countries?
Mr. Takayama: Oh, rearry? [they separate] Hey, that ruhight. If you ook at map, you can see.
Tuong Lu Kim: This whoooore thing is China, and Japan is this riiittle bitty country over here. And that's why the Japanese always try anda take over China!Mr.
Takayama: What?!
Tuong Lu Kim: The Japanese planned to kill people in Nanking! The only thing Japanese ruve more than killing people is killing themselves! Suicide rate in Japan sky-high!
Mr. Takayama: Fuck you!
Tuong Lu Kim: "Oh no, I'm a Japanese and I had a bad day! I think I'm gonna kill myself!"

Dr. Janus: Ah, Butters. You're back.
Butters: Sir, I'm confused.
Dr. Janus: I know you are. This is going to sound scary, pal, but... you have people living inside your head. And some of them want to murder you.
Butters: Really?
Dr. Janus: Yes, I'm afraid you're a little sick. But it's okay, because together we're going to get you well.
Alias 1: [a teenaged personality] Don't listen to Dr. Janus! He's a mean old man and a big silly grown up.
Butters: Pardon me?
Alias 1: He's just a big old stick in the mud who doesn't like to play.
Dr. Janus: Don't mind him, Butters. Billy's a pretty messed up kid. He was molested by his uncles.
Psycho Janus: Dr. Janus isn't going to be alive for long! I'm going to kill him!
Dr. Janus: Now, what are the things that make you happy, Butters? What's the matter, Butters? Are you still with us? Is one of your other personalities trying to take over?
Billy: Let's play Battleship! All hands on the poop deck!
Psycho Janus: Your soul will bleed for eternity!
Alias 2: You don't even know what sexy is, Mr. Harrison.
Alias 3: [singing] That Big Red freshness lasts right through it!
Alias 4: The horned toad says we should go to Mexico. [Butters doesn't know what to make of this doctor, and now he's afraid]
Dr. Janus: What are you feeling, Butters? Are you nervous about your condition?
Butters: Yes!

I don't like music not made with computers because the level of nuance and control over the timbre of the sounds is basically 0 compared to music made with computers.

The best you can do is get 5 guitars and slap 20 pedals on them, and it still sounds like crap, because analog instruments are inherently limited which got old and boring a LONG time ago.

True, you get way more melodic nuance and control, but the most beautiful melody in the world only goes so far when you really can't do anything with it.

Pretty much all analog music sounds like garbage without a soundman using electronics to shape the shit out of it, thats why all recordings and (quality) live performances regardless of genre use soundmen and electronics.

To each his own, but stringed instruments and ones you actually play will always sound infinitely better to me. I like some electronic music, but it lacks the soul that an actual band has in my opinion. It's like when you hear someone ripping an insane solo on guitar you can literally hear them pouring their heart and soul out into it, and I just can't get that feeling with electronic music.

and without your accoustic band being played through electronic amps and all the other electronic filters and tuning shit that the sound crew does your band would sound shit

It's all a matter of opinion.  There are people IMO who can play an acoustic guitar and make it sound amazing unplugged.  I just find it more entertaining to watch someone perform music with analog instruments,  where you can see the real time performance of interacting with something physical.

It's just not as entertaining to watch someone dj most of the time.  That said there's lots of good electronic music out there.  Most dubstep escapes me though, maybe if I were on E it might be more enjoyable.

Indeed, but you're not supposed to watch the dj perform, you're supposed to be dancin'!  :awedance:  :gimmebass:  :ass:  :bananadance:  :pinkelephant:

That's a whole other way of doing things and I feel that's one of the major differences between electronic music and, shall we say, '' analog '' music. One is meant to offer a visual dimension through a performing band or artist and the other is more concerned with making people get into their zone and enjoy the rythm.

Sorry guys, but trying to compare the talent it takes to learn and master an instument to learning to work software is laughable.

Anyways, have fun with your tween wave.

 but it takes talent to produce a good track. Its not like you learn the software thangs and presto you make mad tunes out of nowhere.

in case you guize weren't aware, not all electronic music is dubstep.  most people know this, but someone referenced Amon Tobin as good dubstep.

there are other subgenres of electronic music.  :themoreyouknow:

oh and the episode is hilarious. :randy:

Exactly. I'd disconnect everything else other than the bass and then blast it to max. People would be like :dudewtf::dumbass: but it sounds so :Awemazing:

haha, thing is 'sticky green' talks about tween wave but the whole point in that episode of south park was about being a "cynical bastard" over different tastes i.e "my shit don't stink, yours does"

Dude totally missed the point then tries to use it as his point   :flowstone:

Besides, I play piano in my music and plenty of dubstep and drum and bass tracks have people playing guitars in them.  Most producers also play instruments AS WELL as learning the software.

People should just enjoy what they enjoy.  They don't have to judge, label and hate everything else.

The thing I don't get is why spend your time working to produce music that fits an electronic genre?  Like why make dubstep?  Or DnB? Or Prytrance?  Only people who are heavy into clubs and raves and stuff would do that and that environment doesn't really care about music, it wants a beat with a 'sick drop' or whatever and that has nothing to do with music.
