I'm in the US, but if I found those, I'd call 1 pholiota squarrosoides, need to see the gills on 2 and 3 I would call russula aeruginea

Thanks for that.
Species 1. Is what you call pholiota Sq. were in the hundreds of an habitat of pine forests valleys, where there's open clearings, agmonsts wood debris and grasses.
P.Sub's are vigorous competitors aswell.

Species 2.Sorry about this one. A bit more thought next time.  I did not disturb them but the gills are Practically the same colour as the stem. This was the only species I came across.

Species 3. Russula Aeruginea. Thanks now it rings a bell somewhere  Growing along the edge of the pine forest path.
I think its a nice looking mushroom anyway!
Beautiful habitat aswell. :sunny:

#2 is a very cool looking mushroom. I have never seen anything like in the PNW.

Without microscopy it's going to be hard to obtain a correct id. Could be a Deconica sp.. Any noticeable bruising?

Cool find though.

Now that I look a bit harder they could even just be small subs. They're a pretty variable species dependent on environmental factors. For example, that grass surrounding them is quite short and the fruits found in grass IME tend to grow to about the same length as the grass around them.

Just my thoughts. Microscopy would be needed to know for sure.

No worries thanks.
I actually didnt collect the species. I just took two pics of them.
Its no real issue going back there some stage soon and getting an update.
Just getting to someone with an microscope might be a challenge, Ive got one lead I could work on.
On microscopy does the mushroom need to be fresh or can its ID be known dry?
Here is another pic of same grass location with flattened capped subs going.
Very interesting indeed.
Thanks.

The closer pic.

Just add water and you can rehydrate them for examination under scope.

re: your most recent post I think they look active, but are not subs primarily because of the stripiness running down the cap (as you can tell I'm certainly no authority on mushrooms but I've picked a few subs).

But seeing as aussie subs generally look vastly different to NZ subs I could be very wrong   Great pics man.  Really liked that green guy :tongue2:

Cool stuff ummagumma  I must have missed this thread

From the top of the thread
1. what I've been calling Pholiota multicingulata
2. Xerula sp (or what was Xerula... I think it's now Hymenopellis)
3. Dermocybe austroveneta

1. same as 2. above
2. not sure

1. Psilocybe sp. Could be waterlogged subs, but maybe something else
