fuck it might as well throw this in here too instead of starting a new thread

i recently ordered a case of vaccutainers. (mainly for the injection ports)

but noticed about receiving that they all have some sort of substance in the bottom

about an inch+ in each.

Quote:

"The tubes may contain additional substances that preserve the blood for processing in the medical laboratory. Using the wrong tube may therefore make the blood sample unusable.

The substances may include anticoagulants (EDTA, sodium citrate, heparin) or a gel with intermediate density between blood cells and serum. Additionally, some tubes contain substances that preserve certain chemicals or substances within the blood, such as glucose. When the tube is centrifuged, the blood cells sink to the bottom of the tube, are covered by a layer of the gel, and the serum is left on top. The gel enables the tube to be tipped upside-down and transported without the blood cells remixing with the serum. When a tube that does not contain a clotting agent is centrifuged, the clear liquid is plasma, which contains platelets"

can it be cleaned out?
does it need to be cleaned out?
is it practical for anything mycology related?

I don't know man.

1) They don't have filter patches on them and spawn bags or invitro bags need some form of GE.

2) Are they even autoclavable or able to withstand temperatures of 250°F?If not then don't even bother with them because they'll just melt in the pressure cooker/canner.

I understand you're trying to cut costs of supplies down but I'd rather just pay the $5.99 that The Mad Season wants for 10 large or medium filter patch/spawn bags.It will end up costing a little more but not much. They sell them in batches of 10 for $5.99,25 for $14.50,50 for $27.50 and 100 for $49.99.For the 100 bag batch the shipping should only be like $10 or $11.

I'd spend the extra cash and get real spawn/filter patch bags only because if you get those coin tote bags they may not be able to withstand the temperatures of a PC and therefore that would be a waste of $39 of your money.

No.

An economical alternative to canvas money bags. 6.0 mil gauge co-extruded film withstands rough handling. Vent holes permit air to escape when bags are stacked.

Besides, they're smaller and more expensive than unicorn bags, which are 27 cents each on their site, and already have filter patches installed.

I don't know, probably not.The best and quickest way to find out though is by contacting the company.

I like to think of extra supplies like this...use what you need, trade the rest in the forum marketplace for prints, spore syringes, other mycology supplies, non mushroom supplies and items etc.
