Thanks fellers!

Hey andy.  How's colonization of that outdoor bed coming along?

I dunno, can't really see much underneath the topsoil!

I've had a minor amount of digging, by birds I think, looking for worms.  So far it's been relatively unmolested.  As I said, there are much easier food sources around my garden (rye grain) from various failed projects, so I think the rodents are leaving it alone.

Looks great, how long did you boil/soak your woodchips for?

I dunno really, maybe an hour?  It's not textbook procedure I guess, as it's neither pasteurization nor sterilization (not much point in sterilizing something you're going to put outside).  I just boiled to fast-track the soaking stage.  My partner gives me sideways looks when I leave large pots full of unusual substances lying around the kitchen.

Consider placing a sheet of plastic with slashes in it over your bed?  That ought to raise CO2 levels, keep humidity up, as well as, discourage vermin from invading your bed.

It's a good thing you colonized woodchips with the grain spawn before putting the culture outside.  Otherwise, you'd have a much larger problem with vermin trying to get at the colonized grain spawn for a quick and easy meal.

Good move on placing varying, easier to access, food sources for vermin around the area where your bed is.  Had to do something similar when I had mice invading my spawn room, destroying perfectly good spawn bags.

I'M UP IN YOUR OUTDOOR BEDZ, EATIN' YOUR WUD!

I found some mushrooms in my outdoor Ps. cyanescens bed.  Not cyans (obviously -- wrong time of year).

I'm not sure how to feel about it though, as I've never seen any kind of mushrooms growing in my garden.

Hmm.  What are these, some kind of coprinus?

This is such a sweet project mate, good luck!

Yeah they look like coprinus atramentaria (common ink caps).  Hope those cyans aren't bothered with a bit of company

Thanks man.  In principle, I don't object to any mushrooms growing, but I guess I'm not so thrilled if they're stealing the wood/nutes from my cyans.  No mushrooms ever grew in this spot before, so I hope these just hitched a ride on the wood chips I gathered from the forest.

They shouldn't be a huge problem, as galerina and cyans share wood....dirty whores....

Weather probably isn't right on the cyans yet either, but it's cool you've got something growing, you've met the biological needs of at least one specie of mushroom.

Yeah suppose it's a good sign that mushrooms like the spot, you just wouldn't want them taking over! Sure all is okay though, you gonna take steps to eradicate / slow their progress or keeping everything au natural?
