You aren't going to find a single neuroscientist that would say there is a consensus on what 'consciousness' really is... But this is cool, its only a matter of time till shit gets insane
... maybe, literally.

You guys are REALLY bottle-holing the definition of language - language does not have to be words, and it does not have to be spoken or written.
Art is a form of language.
Music is a form of language.
Any time you express an idea or feeling that can be interpreted by someone else you are using a form of language.

The problem with the internet is people can look up definitions and be tediously specific about their meanings.

I don't see why that's a problem. If your words don't have specific meanings, then you're not really saying anything at all, are you?

Language DOES have to be symbolic in nature and involve manipulating those symbols as symbols.
Art is not language.
Music is not language.

Words have different meanings to different people, trying for true semantic clarity is foolish and referring to a dictionary every 2 minutes is an excellent way to derail a discussion.
I don't see how you can take issue with the idea that language is an indicator of higher consciousness?

But what is the alternative? Having a discussion where two people are using different definitions? That is a recipe for communication breakdown and misunderstanding. You cant derail such a discussion because it was never on track to begin with. Referring to definitions is a good thing.

I'd say this happens in discussions more than we care to admit.

You're right. It's tricky but I concede that knowing specific definitions is imporant, it just seems a little bit tedious at times.

I think there is some truth to that.
Not exactly...Consciousness= life the brain without consciousness is just a computer ...Memory. I mean more than that but...Consciousness is the whole body as well... For example I could say that the heart is the seat of feeling, and consciousness...And the brain being used more between memory and intellectual thought etc...
Are other creatures not conscious just because they have incredibly smaller brains than humans?
I think the human brain itself is more complicated than the languages that we speak...For example, would you think without language? Yes, words are just spoken with your thoughts, words are tools, but not consciousness...
Consciousness is the will that drives the thought through the brain and the heart, all creatures are conscious
Humans are just a more advanced vessel of consciousness
