Contam or Dried Myc?
    #14591693 - 06/10/11 05:34 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I posted this in Mushroom Cultivation, but they said to try the Contamination Forum... so here it is...

I'm about 2 weeks in with my pf tek jars, but I've run into some more problems. Some of my jars' dry verm layer has fallen through the sides. I think this has allowed evaporation to happen quickly, so the myc has started to dry out. My question is.. Is this myc still salvageable? The first two pictures are the dried out, fuzzy-like myc. The third picture is my fastest jar (for comparison) and it looks different from the other two. It's wetter and ropier.

However, some are saying that it's bacteria or infection because of yellow sort of color and that there's moisture there that could cause the contams.

But it does look really fuzzy compared to the others. Do you think I should maybe inject water? LoL I have no idea what to do. Maybe add more dry verm to the top to make up for the stuff on the sides?

theres rhizmomorphic mycelium (thin and stringy) this is what you have. Then theres the normal cotton mycelium, its fluffy and slower. both are okay. rhixmomorphic is preferred, as its just really agressive. I'd leave them alone dude, no more anything. they look a little on the wet side to begin with.
just keep watching them, they're lookin fine!

Once u knocked the jar up and closed it, leave it alone!! Worrying about it only causes problems it is either going to contaim or not colonize or it is and their is not much you can do to change things.

Only thing u can do by opening the jar or injecting water is interduce contaims.........just put them away and fight the urge to check them out all the time
