Yeah but he specifically said it would also include sites that explain "how to do something illegal"

You can definitely learn how to grow psilocybin mushrooms here...

I want to see where that is in the bill. Not what someone basically got out of it.

The summery of the PROTECT IP Act
Quote:

The PROTECT IP Act
Copyright infringement and the sale of counterfeit goods are reported to cost American creatorsand producers billions of dollars and to result in hundreds of thousands in lost jobs annually. This pervasive problem has assumed an especially threatening form on the Internet. Consumersare increasingly lured to well-designed websites that are devoted almost exclusively tounauthorized downloads and streaming of copyrighted content or sale of counterfeit goods.

These rogue Internet sites are often outside the reach of U.S. law enforcement because they areforeign-owned and operated, or reside at domain names that are not registered through a U.S.-based registry or registrar. The illegal products offered at these websites are wide-ranging, fromthe latest movie or music hits to pharmaceuticals and consumer products.

if pirate bay is in the US then yes, since they're located overseas and can
be accessed via google by proxy, no. all it allows for is the mailing of a
court order to search engines to remove and block sites that infringe on
trademarks and intellectual property, the bill also specifies that no other
court action will be taken

And if the analogue act is applied, potentially all RC vendors.

So a proxy will get around the blacklisted sites?

yup.

there's a number of blocked sites already, the poker sites being the most
recent, if you try and access them from the US you get the DOJ page, use a
foreign proxy and you get the site

Interesting. And BothHands, I bet the more lucrative RC businesses would probably opt for offshore hosting to escape the shutdown.

They'd still be blocked, even offshore.  But as Pris pointed out, a proxy could get around the block.

I'm also interested in torrents though.  I don't think I can get my torrent program to connect via a proxy.  But I'm sure they'll probably add that ability if this passes, right?

Also a good question.  Alertpay should still work though, right?

Hopefully they wouldn't be prosecuted in that case, though. No matter, they've already drafted bills to ban 2C's and I bet subbed tryptamines will follow not long after.

Though I'll miss the 2C's, something new will always be available.  I'm more worried about completely losing access to the websites.

Download peerblock. Block http and you can see all the i.p's that are monitoring your whereabouts or something such, all the while keeping you hidden.

That and tor is a pretty good combo I'd imagine.

Does the copyright holder need to make the claim, or is this proactive, they plan to go around stomping out counterfeits?

from what I've read, if someone makes a complaint they check it out and block
it, nothing further gets done, apparently the starving africans can still buy
gucci knockoffs as soon as they get their free charity lap tops

i think it's the companies job to keep everything secret i mean they have contracts and they can hire the technology if something gets out

i dont see how suing people for clicking the wrong link or sharing information should be THAT prosecutable

no one is getting sued for the shit, not even the site owners, at least not
by the government and if the companies keep shit secret then we'll be in the
stone age because that new car they've built cant be released because it's a
secret, there will be no more updated in computer technology or software
because it's gotta be kept a secret, no new movies, I mean it's not as if the
new ones arent just recycled old ones but still... you get the point
