What is nothing?

Like before the big bang.  Does nothing have any properties?

But there is nothing all around us... Atoms aren't solid balls, they are made up of protons, electrons and neutrons with (relative) vast distance in between the protons, electrons and neutrons. Most of the space which we are made of and which surrounds us is mainly nothing. Nothing is just the vast container which allows everything to be.

Nothing is the universe, god and the never ending space which allows us all to be

even empty space is filled with virtual particles which pop in and out of existence.
I believe the idea of nothing is just like the idea of infinity.  Both are impossible to grasp due to our limited perspective.

If nothing is out side of our universe that means our universe exist in nothing.  So maybe we don't even exist wouldn't that be an awesome cosmic joke.

This. Nature really does seem to abhor a vacuum. Nothing cannot exist. Even in the vacuums of seemingly black space the subatomic world still bubbles, spontaneously creating and deleting particles.

Even just logically, nothing is impossible to comprehend. Just try to imagine or picture nothing. A black void doesn't cut it, because that is still a black space. It must have no properties.

Whenever I try to imagine nothing ever existing I get a weird anxiety.  Bottom line is there is a lot we don't know about this universe.

We are made up of information. Black space is information. Nothingness would be the state where there is no information whatsoever, so it is impossible to describe or imagine and this discussion is pointless. By rounding, we could describe nothingness as everything that does not exist, but that does not mean it doesn't exist... there is just no real information to describe.

You ask how the big bang occurred ? I doubt any human on earth knows that.
Yah and nothing exists. It's the difference between zero and 1/inf, or the difference between +/- inf and 1/0, or the difference between apple A and apple A

How so? It is not propertieless. Secondly, the phrasing of that sentence is just wrong: the property of not carrying properties of something -- but carring the properties of some other thing, like itself? Which you basically said. Then how is nothingess any different from any other thing in existance?

I ask one simple thing: Does nothing carry information or not?

If it does, is it nothing? Then there are all the things that don't carry any information at all, because they don't exist, everything that does not exist, is nothingness, that is nothing. And I am not speaking about objects of imagination here, because those still carry information, the things that doesn't exist are unimaginable because there are no properties, no information to speak of. Is this so hard concept to grasp`?

No, I'm not asking how the big bang happen. I'm saying that even before the big bang there had to be something. There has always been something, even if it was an infinitely dense infinitely small singularity.

How can something come from nothing?

Why are you stuck on idea that something must come from nothing, that the beginning of something lies in nothing, that nothing was first and something after.

Maybe it is the opposite? Everything was first, and nothing after?

Nothingness and existance are ying and yang, and they are both separate universes.

Well, the question was what were the properties of nothing "like before the big bang."

I'm saying that there can never have been nothing before something. If there was ever nothing in the universe than it would be impossible for anything to come about.

There has always been something, not to say that there could never be nothing...
