2.25 qt spawn- cake or bulk?

I'd like to use my colonized BRF half pints as spawn (9 jars, 2.25 quarts total), but after searching for information on moving to bulk I think I may be confronted with the problem that I have too little spawn for a 16.5 gallon monotub.
The bulk substrate I would prepare would be coir/verm/coffee, following large_dose's method: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/9289857/fpart/1/vc/1
Is this too little spawn? Do I run a risk for contams if I proceed this way? Would you recommend I fruit these as cakes in a shotgun fc, and wait on bulk until I can do grains with a PC?
Thanks

I know you want to do the monotub but is it that important really? Would a 10qt casing be too small to be worth while?
For me using a large amount substrate for a small amount of spawn is risky. There have been times I have gotten away with it and there have been failures. Even when I don't get contaminates it seems to just yield shitty and flush unevenly. See what I mean in the pic below?
I used 8 parts sub to 1 part spawn for that casing and it sucked, That may or may not be the reason it did so shitty but I think the low amount of spawn was at least a major player because I made more casings the same day with my usual 4:1 and they all did great - same syringe, same everything.
I get my best results when I use 4 parts substrate to 1 part spawn. I realize that other growers use more sub per spawn but I am just sharing my experience.

I wanted to try a 4:1 ratio, so 9 quarts of substrate.

BRF spawned to coir with some coffee grounds and verm added in. I wasn't planning to use a casing layer.

I guess what I'm worried about is that if I have something like a 4:1 ratio between sub and spawn, and the total volume of everything in the tub is something just under 3 gallons in a tub that is 13x20, then that'll give me a substrate depth of around 2.5 inches.
From what I've seen in searching the forums, the ideal substrate depth is more around 4 inches. I haven't put any holes in the tub yet, but I'd like to put them around 4 inches so that I can use the tub when I spawn from grain.
It comes down to this- is 2.5 inches of substrate depth going to work out? Will it be problematic to have this depth and still put the holes in at 4 inches height on the monotub?

You should be golden then, I was thinking you were gonna do the whole 16qt tub with 2.25qts, lol. Good luck!
2.5 inches of sub should work great. It seems like I get better flushes from a thinner sub, albeit fewer flushes, than I do with thick subs.
