Hmmmm, TOR/Silk Road/Bitcoin obviously wasn't redundant and sophisticated enough. It didn't even take 1 known bust to shut down Silk Road and seriously cause swings in the bitcoin value. This all heavily depended upon the secrecy of the masses (which any good black market seller/buyer knows is impossible to begin with.)
While I don't have any fresh ideas to offer (nor would I offer them here (unless you're a developer)) I would bet with almost certainty that as a result of this fiasco, the gov't will be forced to spend metric TONS of dollars in the prevention, detection and overall control of these types of networks. This can be seen as a sort of chess maneuver where the black side just forced the white side to sacrifice a few pawns. The gov't is weak right now and it may be likely they will do something really dumb to protect their fiefdom.
If this story comes to anything besides a bunch of people whining, then I urge someone to mention this to lulzsec on twitter.

Thats the amazing part about it. All of my vendors are switching to bitcoins because it is so much safer than WU or CIM.

I don't even care that they're somewhat traceable. they're untaxable, and banks can't collect interest on them. this is probably why Germany is trying to ban them...they pose a threat to Deutsche Bank.
fuck 'em. this is the thick of the information age. adapt, or go back to being a hunter/gatherer.

They are no different than gold, silver or whatever, remember its "really not a real currency" B/c some one still has to cash it out in your native currency- And people are selling it for "real fiat" currency- And if there is only 21million coins total to be made- and so far less than 100,000 bitcoins have been made you do the math- If i controlled over 50 pct of the coins you could set price, Or sell stuff and just hoard the coins. some guy turned lets say 100,000 bit coins into 2.8 million with the current exchange rate- Yo Ponzi got a new scheme- Its kinda like WoW gold people used to sell that shit for real currency v Or how people trade prints for stuff.Any thing has value-
Hell, you could make a shroomery currency, if you wanted- especially since there are so many people and Vendors. Could work wonders for the market place-

QUOTED FOR TRUTH. Some people and many a government are at war with evolution because to evolution they are subject. Plenty of people loath and fear what cannot be organized and controled. So Bitcoin is loath as well, especially Bitcoin.
Can the contemporary government extend to control both reality and virtual reality, or will contemporary government extend for a net gain of FAIL? The way they have ignored the populace of late will seemingly lead those who would otherwise be recruited for cyber-jobs under gov't into the hands of the very opposition they would brace against.

No, it most certainly does not "belong" to anyone now.

I have a theory that might be stupid I dunno, but here it is:
What if Adrian Chen posted the article not because he's an idiot, but because he knew by writing this article he would draw attention to the bitcoins and drive the price way up?
Perhaps it's giving him too much credit, but perhaps not.
