Yea man I always get drivers honking at me or aggressively passing me.
To get downtown here in seattle there are basically only 2 ways you can do it by bike. The first one involves riding along Aurora (Highway 99) and there's about a half mile stretch where traffic moves at 45-50mph...it's scary as hell riding along it but it's the fastest way (and it's a nice downhill), or the other one involves riding along a half mile road where traffic travels about 40mph, and is a gradual incline the whole length (ughh so tiring).
Otherwise though we have an amazing trial system designed specifically for biking. At least 75miles worth of trails, but none that lead into downtown where I work
What kinda bike do you have?

These comments about fat-ass drivers and the like only reinforce the idea that self-important cyclists deserve to become hood ornaments.

Lol that's true, but bike riders aren't morons. They're actually probably a lot more alert than 90% of the other drivers you're on the road with.
Where would you prefer people ride their bicycles? The road is the only safe place to ride a bike, the sidewalks are NOT safe.

bikes and cars must share the road. drivers shouldnt get pissed at bikes but bikers must also respect the fact that drivers should have the right-of-way.

Bikers are pretty stupid mostly lol
They snare and look at you when you drive by, if your long boarding they come real close to you no matter where you are in the street and look back at you like your trash for not being on a bike like them.
Or if your jogging through the park on a huge trail, they will ride up fast behind you and then quickly go around you acting as if you have ruined their bike ride.
Bikers will slow traffic and sight see the whole time
OP were you wearing those tight azz shorts that bikers wear? maybe they targeted you because of that

The stories I'm hearing make me grateful for my 3.5 mile ride to college. It really ain't that bad of a ride. I guess this occurrence was just a lil traumatizing. I like having a mountain bike because I can ride on the grass when need be. Its cool to hear theres some fellow bikers on the shroomery.
And spirtual snorkel and rectangle you're in for a world of pain!
Jk but seriously, get the fuck off my thread.

you don't know anything about biking
first of all there are some bikers who have that superiority complex, but not all of them.
of course they will come up behind you fast, they are going 20+mph
bikers usually keep as fast a pace as they can. It's not easy to ride a bike 30mph...
Also those tight ass shorts are for comfort. You have clearly never been on a road bike. The saddles are small, and clothing creates a lot of friction which can cause bad rashes, also the clothing is hot as hell, and causes an incredible amount of sweat. The bike shorts wick away sweat, as well as pad your ass so it's more comfortable.
I don't have a pic of my bike, but here's basically what it looks like (except it's dark blue w/orange bar tape)

Yea it's pretty fast. I always rode BMX/Mountain bikes and just bought my road bike like 4 months ago. I seriously am in love with it lol...it's really fast and I love haulin ass on it It was expensive, I think total I've spent about $800 (but I replaced the rear derailleur/pedals/chain/rear cassette) except i had shoulder surgery 3 weeks ago, so I can't ride it until August I'm pissed, because in Seattle the next 3 months are the only sunny months outta the year!!
as for bumps....hahah no it does not. It's a steel frame, so it's a bit rougher on the road than an aluminum or carbon fiber frame would be...but I don't mind.I have to avoid big bumps because my tires are so skinny that a huge bump could give me a flat. That's why road bikers HAVE to use the road, it's the only flat, paved surface there is

They're much more susceptible to fatal injury on the road than drivers. Bicycle riding is also much more engaging than driving a car, and there's less likelihood of slipping off into a daydream.
However, morons drive cars, morons ride bikes, and it's safer to assume those around you on the road are just that. Morons. They are the majority, after all.

Where I live, there's miles of levee to ride on with beautiful river scenery, and plenty of bike trails otherwise. Unless you've got somewhere particular to go, these are great places to ride.
Bikes are most often ridden on the sidewalk here and everyone is pretty accustomed to that. There isn't an abundance of sidewalk traffic.
When riders are on the shoulder of the road, I always give them plenty of room for error. It's the ones why try to ride as if they are just another car, or try to implicate me in their untimely death that are irritating. It's not so much a matter of time or impatience.

hmm, sounds like you just aren't used to cyclists in the road. In Seattle...omg everyone has a bike. Seriously during the summer there are bikers on every road everywhere. Haha, they really have to ride as if they're another car, because that's the only safe way to ride. Granted, there are plenty of bike lanes/trails to ride on, but lots of people use bikes as their main method of transportation (me) so I'm forced to ride in the road.
Also, trust me...if you are riding your bike in traffic you are alert as fuck.

Get a BMX and next time it happens, grind their car and do a flip whip off of their hood.
That'll learn em.

What's up with the bike hate in this thread? I've had that happen to me RP, all the time actually. People in their cars just can't take 3 seconds out of their day to pass a bike that's in the shoulder. Doesn't make any sense to me. I live the most bike friendly city in the world and there are still assholes like you encountered. Just keep on biking man.
