Spore prints/making syringes

So I took spore prints sort've wrong, and now I'm worried about using them... what I did was just take the caps after cutting them off and I set them on some unsterilized tin foil, then put a glass over it. After 24 hours of that I took the glass off, and I took the cap and put the glass back over it to allow the print to dry. Then in another 24 hours I folded/taped up the foil strip, put it in a plastic baggie, and put it in a cool/dark place.
Do you think these prints are OK to use? And what gauge of syringe should I get?

idk but you should have at least wiped the foil off with some alcohol at the least. but idk the answer tho. the answer i do kno is the needles witch would be in the 16-18 gauge range.

No print is completely sterile,If your asking will you be able to germinate spores from that print then the answer is yes

If you're worried about them being contaminated, you should just start them on some agar

18 guage is what everybody recommends. I think I'd prefer a bigger guage myself. Those syringes that come with some printer ink refill kits are the bomb because they don't have the needle point and the nice round tube is perfect but it's gotta be equivalent to a larger guage.
Use Sterile Tek. If everything that touches the cap from your hand to the instrument you cut it with isn't flamed or gloved and sterile you could have problems. Look up a tech for the foil method. The foil is supposed to be sterilized by heating or some such. The real problem is having it sit in an exposed environment for a long time to print and to dry afterward. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with all this taking place outside of a glove box and the jar needs to be pressure cooked for an hour if it touches the thing.
You're taking your chances if you don't stringently apply Sterile Tek.
I prefer to do my prints in a sterile 1/2 pint jar.

Just from the fruit body growing in its substrate is going to make it not sterile right from the point you first take the cap for a print all you can do is try and lessen the contamination using sterile methods

you should be just fine, I never sterize the foil just throw the cap on it cover and wait about 24 hr. I did have a problem once contamn like all but 1 jar, so to correct this I added all the rest of the spores in a glass with some distilled water and made a super concetrated spore syringe (shit load more mush spores than any other bad spore, making them greatly out number anything else that might have gotton on the print.) then used it on 5 jars with no problems at all.

Aluminum foil is produced under high heat and pressure so it is ok to print on. Less is more when it comes to multi spore so keep that in mind when making syringes. Agar is definitely the best way to guard against contaminants.

That doesn't make it sterile by a long shot,Trich covers every square inch of this planet. You're never going to get a sterile print, the best you can do is try everything possible to cut down on how much it is contaminated ie:wiping foil with alcohol, glovebox ect.Use agar to clean the print up if you want to be sure

Ya i took a print and made a syringe from it real easy and im a pretty big noob. I just dropped the cut off cap (with iso alc'd knife) into a brand new unopened half pint jar and put the lid on, let it print all day, then i took the lid off, took cap out intensely quick with sterile knife, stirred the spores up with something dull and not sharp, and squirted a syringe full of sucked up boiled/cooled sterile water on the spores, sucked all back in, squirted back out to get any residual spores, and sucked all back in slowly making sure i got every drop of spore water there was and i flamed the needle and capped. I did this whole procedure in open air and i got a successful syringe which fully colonized a few cakes but a few contamd because i did the spore printing and inoc'n the cakes in open air. The syringe was OK tho because only a couple cakes contamd meaning it was my inoc'n that f'd up. I need to build a glovebox.
You want as little amount of spores per syringe as possible when making a spore syringe. The more spores there are in a syringe, the more competitive genetics there are throughout your colonizing substrate, making potency and genetics vary sometimes greatly from shroom to shroom. Thats why 1 spore print is usually made into like 5 or more syringes because we want the spore count to be as small as possible per each syringe for less competition of genetics. I suggest making as much syringes as you can from 1 print. The more the better.
