glove box without gloves?

i would know if gloves are really necessary using the glovebox,or if there's enough to spray the box very well with alcool and also your bare hands..i don't see the difference between hands and gloves if they're very clean!it would be much easier to work without gloves

you will always find some contam under your nails, in hand hair, exfoliating skin and general human detritus that you will never shift. why risk it? use thin gloves?

the box is about the air being still.
how clean your hands are is a different thing altogether.

I have to agree with K00laid, still disinfected air + ease of movement + relatively clean hands will work just fine with minnamal negative results, I have never used gloves for my edibles and never had an issue!

I also use a box without any gloves attached but wear very thin single-use latex or vinyl gloves. I think attached gloves easily restricts ease of movement way too much, or maybe it's just my lack of engineering skill.

I never attach my gloves to my SAB...they stay on my hands so I can flame my needle outside of my SAB

Very, very bad idea. You could be the second person today to get the skin burned off your hands.
Never wash a glove/still air box with alcohol. Also, always wear gloves. Your hands are filthy, whether you've washed them with alcohol or not. If you doubt this, wash your hands with alcohol and then touch a petri dish of agar with your finger. In a few days, you'll see a perfect fingerprint shaped mold and bacteria growth.
Here's how to use a still air box. Watch part 2. RR

IMO glove boxes are not necessary. Just make sure you are in a clean room with no windows or moving air. Also wash your hands before inocing. Although i am a noob i have 0 contams out of 7 jars for my first time.

You got lucky.
I'd never recommend inoculating PF tek jars outside of a SAB/GB.
I do all my agar, G2G & cloning work inside my SAB w/out a contam yet...

you did luck out! i mean, just cuz the furnace isn't on doesn't mean the air isn't moving shit around, letting it land right on your noc port.
ive seen some pretty elaborate gloveboxes, but yo, this isn't that scene in E.T. where the government plastic wraps the whole house.

RR, other than the build up of fumes, what other reason are there for not using alcohol to clean the glove box? P.S. use a glove box and gloves peeps.

That's like advising it's OK to drive drunk at 90 mph through a school zone without a seatbelt while talking on a cell phone as you get a blow job. Nobody wants bad advice, they want good advice. RR

Im gonna chime in here without reading the whole thread's posts...
You dont need a "glovebox" What you want is a "still-air box"
What you do, is cut 2 arm holes in a rubbermaid, and flip it upside down on a table... And there is your still air box...
Wear gloves, wash them with alcohol, and stick your arms in the 2 holes...
Here is a pic of my old still air box

I covered my arm holes with a tyvek sleeve when im not using it, to help keep drafts down...

you got lucky there. try do 100 jars and give us the contam rate.
@woodylover & anyone wanting to do agar
if you would like to do agar work i would suggest you invest in a flow hood. the amount of waste you will be going through in your first agar attemps should = the price of hepa filter.
if you are just nocing up jars use a glovebox & gloves and make sure you have had a bath or shower before hand

Challenge Accepted. Ha I wish I had enough room to do that. I forgot to mention that although I did not use a glove box immediately after inoculation all of my jars were placed into a small art supply box that was cleaned with alcohol.
