Habitat: Found under a large pine tree growing out of a thick bed of pine needles.
Gills: White
Stem: 7cm, thick, not hollow, white, no noticable veil (though i only picked the younger specimen)
Cap: Red with white dots, smooth texture, spherical but the older specimens have broad/flat caps.
Spore print color: Haven't taken a print yet, spores are said to be white and i don't have any coloured paper to print on.
Bruising: No bruising
Other information: Smells strongly of err... mushroom!

Most likely a. muscaria, but it's hard to be conclusive. If you put up an amanita for identification, never forget to include clear shots of the base of the stem.

Hummm... I snapped off the stem to check if it was hollow or not before i posted up the pics. It was covered with dirt anywhom, not much to see... What should i be looking for? I've got a few intact specimens outside but they are dried, should i post up pics of them?

With a. muscaria, you're looking for a somewhat bulbous base of the stem, which often features concentric rings of tissue. Note that the bulbous part is usually nearly or completely buried.

Yuhhp, sounds pretty much spot on. Apologies about the photo quality, webcams aren't the most advanced of devices && i had to turn it to a GIF.
Are there any poisonous lookalikes that grow around Australia? I've had a search of the web, can't find too much info. A few different aminatas are mentioned but none of them look anything like muscaria. Would just like to be 100 % certain before i consume them.
Also i've read up heaps on dosage, but opinion seems to vary wildly. I don't have scales so i can't measure accurately enough to dose in grams, and i understand that potency varies wildly to .
But that being said; is one cap going to be a strong enough dose for my first time?? If i have two am i going to regret it? I'm a rather seasoned tripper, more worried about the nausea side of things.
Thankyou so much for your timely responses guys

Looks like A. muscaria. Peel back the skin of the cap, beneath should be a small yellow layer. If you plan on consuming, read up on it first. Always dry it out. Tea is my favorite way, mixed with 2 parts juice. Erowid and here have good dosage advice, and if you want to know more about it, there's trip reports on here from many people (me included).

kinda looks like an R. Xerampelina/Rosacea that you scratched with your thumbnail.
Was there a vulva present when you picked them?

It's a beautiful example of A. muscaria, even with the low quality pics. It wouldn't have a vulva, but a bulbous base with concentric rings. As to dosage, I'm about 180 lbs, and here's my Third Trip Report on the fly agaric. Anyways, the feeling towards these mushrooms is as varied as the people. Lots of love, lots of hate, and still lots of bad information out there. I just love the drunken buzz from it.

i'll second that.. well, not from A. Muscaria, but i my first trip was mixed with a little wine on a river and it was VERY relaxing.
