Retroactive withdrawal from school due to addiction?
    #14588695 - 06/10/11 01:22 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Anybody have any knowledge or experience in this subject?

How valid would a reason like drug addiction be for trying to get withdrawn from my classes from the semester that just ended? I don't want to fuck my GPA up with F's, and feel like trying for a retroactive withdrawal while being honest would yield the most favorable outcome. In addition, I'm clean now and am taking steps to ensure this won't happen again...

Anyone?

plus i dont know about you but i wouldnt want to be known as someone who did drugs not to be a wank but they usually brand you as a liar if you say anything so it's best to just give up ill

we'll figure this out

jus treat it personally

don't tell them directly your addicted to drugs.

Just say for personal/compassionate reasons.

Get supporting documentation from doctors/psychiatrists/psychologists/any professionals you can to substantiate your claim.

i actually did a similar thing this semester also, i withdrew after the final withdrawal date due to personal circumstances. long story short i've been to three funerals in 12 months. and things are a bit fucked at the moment. i mean it was also just an easy way out for me and i was being lazy, but yeah the uni weren't going to argue with my circumstances, they were extremely helpful.

but to be honest the best option in every sense of the word is to just man up and do the work. don't take the easy way out. you'll just be wasting time and end up regretting it later. it's wasted time.

I don't feel like just claiming "personal reasons" will be a valid enough excuse; I'd expect they would want more than that.

At this point I haven't seen anyone for this I've been getting clean myself with a lot of help from supportive friends.

I know the answer is to man up and do the work and that's what I'm trying to do but what's done is done and I fucked up this semester and I'm just trying to just rectify it the best way possible. Meaning not completely screwing up my GPA.

you need to get onto your college/universities website, and view the forms necessary for this application. you need to read carefully the criteria and grounds that these sorts of applications are approved on, and see whether or not you can fit your situation into one of those categories.

A late withdrawal such as this is really unlikely to be approved though without any professional documentation to substantiate your claim. so you really need to get out to a doctor or psychiatrist or something like that to get a note to prove what your saying.

Well I'm already coming up on my 5th day of sobriety.. not sure what can do at this point as far as getting a note from a physician, seems too late in the process to seek help or anything since I'm a lot better now

see your college councillor asap, usually its free, and i'm fairly sure they will accept a note from them if you convince them.

I done fucked up this uni session as well. Plus i was on academic probation. Pretty sure im getting dismissed  and i cant think of what to say in the appeal petition. There no documentable evidence of anythign i can present. Noone died, nor was i sick. Gonna fail one of the classes because of straight up missing a final due to thinking it was on a diff date... i highly doubt they would accept that as a legitimate excuse. I wish i knew what to do
