Went Trout Fshing In The Desrt....
    #14588276 - 06/09/11 11:07 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I got down to this river, saw this place and thought it looked like a classic place for trout...    and U cught this nice brown right under the waterfall...

It was almost dark, so I just gave it to my mom.  Usually in this river I'll get 2 or 3 trout in an hour.

Hey man nice fish!

Big blue halo's around those spots, very cool.

Is that up in the mountains somewhere?

THis is not exactly in the mountains.  It is about 1000 meters off the mescalero apache reservation, in NM.  There is hard cactus desert just outside the canyon these fish are in.  However, the altitude is about 1500m here, and it rises to 3800m in just a short drive, the temp outside was about 95 when I went fishing and that water is ICY cold.  That creek runs right through the desert, and has good trout, rainbows up to 32" have been taken in it.  And its deep, pools 8~12ft in some places.  Good to swim in too, when it is 100F outside.

Also, I saw these flowers and started thinking that this might be a super dank place to trip on magic cactus.

well, the last time I went fishing there I got too fucking stoned, and quit because it is a lot of work getting through the brush to the river.  Well worth it though, there are nice trout there.  I just want to camp in one of those grassy fields, eat cactus, and roast bones while starring at the night sky.

What kind of a flower is that?  I'm interested in the taxonomy, but I've been more into gettting the desert plants recently.  The only areas you see stuff like this is around the creeks because there is no surface water anywhere besides these small creeks.

I love little streams like that with pools.

Beautiful fish, what did you catch it on as far as bait/lure?

I caught it on a piece of corn.  But I'll bet, if I could have found the crickets that were chirping I could have caught a lot more.

I've taken fish out of this river, and cut them open, and they were stuffed with so many bumble bees or grasshoppers that they must have been in pain.  Trout eat what is most plentiful at the time.  When fish 'aren't biting' it is usually a sign that something is hatching and you don't have a chance.

I've also seen trout rising over a creek, with little insects swirling around, and I mean, those trout were scarfing.

Sweet pea (Lathyrus odoratus) is a flowering plant in the genus Lathyrus  in the family Fabaceae (legumes), native to the eastern Mediterranean region  from Sicily  east to Crete.

It is an annual climbing plant, growing to a height of 1–2 meters (nearly six feet and six inches), where suitable support is available. The leaves are pinnate with two leaflets and a terminal tendril, which twines around supporting plants and structures helping the sweet pea to climb. The flowers are purple, 2-3.5 centimeters broad, in the wild plant, larger and very variable in colour in the many cultivars.
