This is my first grow an I'm open to advice.
    #14588493 - 06/10/11 12:06 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I just got my spores  (Golden Teacher and Amazon).I made my own substrate from brown rice flour and I made a second batch as an experiment with a recipe I found online called "Alien Substrate".Loosely packed my jars covered them with foil added my four holes before hand of course and just inoculated my first ten jars and I have ten to go.I would like to know if anyone has advice for the colonization process and beyond.Should I leave them in a cool dark place or leave them in indirect sunlight. And also after birthing should I give them a 20 hour soak or should I just put them in the grow tank, also should I roll them in verm or just plop them in the pear-lite?I need answers ahhhhh! So many different methods which work best?

Pf tek brf is the way to go if you're new. Keep your jars at room temp. Preferably in tye 70's. Indirect  sunlight is beneficial to mycelium during all stages of its life.

Right on, I went crazy sterilizing and I'm waiting for the rest of my jars to cool.do you know if I should leave my jars covered or uncovered?I'm covering with napkins  secured with hemp chord for now until I find out.

Make an LC so you don't need to buy more prints or syringes. It saves money.

This is a help forum man and any and all questions should be welcome.
Research will deff help but actually asking people who know is invaluable. I wish I knew about this site when I first started, I had so many problems and questions.

I spent about a week reading and watching everything I could.I sterilized everything as best best I could I didn't have pressure cooker,so I used a pot witha lid and a rag at the bottom to cut down on heat transfer so not to dry out my substrate too uch.I burned my needle with a lighter and then I wiped it with a prep pad I was able to make a glove box and I sterilized my needle after almost every jar.I'm just really worried about contamination.I have about ten jars I read that completely covering with tape or foil would cause the jars to colonize slowly so I used papertowels and rubber bands I figured that would allow more air flow and not leave them completely opened. How do things sound so far?Oh and is it true that myc benifits from indirect light at all stages even colonization?

it sounds like ur off to a good start ull never learn no matter what you watch or hear till you try. The pot and rag thing works real well that's what I use. And as far as light iv read that the myc is light sensitive and should only be introduced when ur ready to fruit. I keep it in the dark till the time is right but I may be wrong. It works for me and most but ull see.

Yeah I guess I shpould try half in dark and half in light I'm just using a lamp. It's rediculous I'm reading that light is completely nescessary in some places and kryptonite in others so confusing.Check out the pics I posted in another post it looks like myc. but it has only been 2 days tell me what you think

Yoo're on the right track, buddy:thumbup:most of your questions are of little importance, and just come down to preference. Inderect sunlight has proven in recent tests to be beneficial to all stages of growth. Back in the day people said keep them in the dark, until you are ready to birth because the light is a pinning trigger, but now-a-days we know that keeping them in the dark doesn't actually help. Your jars don't NEED anything on top, but so long as air can pass through, it doesn't hurt anything. Dunking your cake after birthing is def. reccommended, you'll get more/bigger fruits. The verm roll is reccommended, it creates a "microclimate" at the surface of the cake and will help your pin-set, often times. Is it neccissary? no
