Massive Pot Growing Operation
Discovered in Industry
June 9, 2011 - ktla.com
INDUSTRY, Calif. (KTLA) -- Investigators following up on a major pot
bust in El Monte discovered an even larger growing operation in
Industry.
The warehouse was discovered Thusday in the 100 block of Mason Way.
Authorities found more than 3,600 marijuana plants, valued at about $3
million, according to El Monte police.
Investigators think the operations in El Monte and Industry were run by
the same people, though no one has been arrested and no suspects have
been identified.
The El Monte bust, which happened on Saturday, had been the largest
ever in the area, but the operation in Industry was larger, according
to police.
Information obtained while raiding the El Monte warehouse led
investigators to the location in Industry, police said.
In both cases, authorities found complex hydroponic systems, lighting
equipment and filters used to eliminate the smell of the plants.
The equipment discovered in Industry was worth about $500,000,
according to investigators.
Additionally, both operations were stealing electricity from Southern
California Edison by bypassing meters.
Investigators are now trying to determine who was running the
warehouses.
First off.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY VEGGIE!!! Thank you for all the years you've delivered many quality news stories with proper sources and also consistently labeling when and where they come from.
Second, there's no story here if the thieves (that's what they are, for sure) didn't steal the power and have an armed guard. This shouldn't be in the news at all really. This isn't the largest grow in anything but that county. Who cares? Aside from the stealing power, I don't.

I gotta give it to the people involved, because they have some balls to be going that big. I'd be so paranoid, I probably wouldn't be able to sleep. Certaintly a shame it got caught out, hopefully whom ever is responsible has made it to Mexico by now.
The main way people are caught besides running their mouth and showing is stealing power. That is so stupid, they always are going to find out. They know how much power is being used and how much is paid for. The difference minus losses in the lines is theft. They can tell you within a few percentage points how much is being stolen. They put meters on the areas with losses and narrow it down to one block and finally, the house or building. That's how they got busted.
They could have had 5 businesses in the same building with separate meters keeping the electric bills low. They could have used generators and the noise would have been assumed to be from the business inside. Stupid people get caught.

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

This one was a no-brainer though. Stealing power has always garnered the same result. Who were they kidding? Obviously nobody. Hence, busted. This grow-op for all it's sophistication and size was for the noobs. Someone got greedy, the first golden law of the underground; don't be.

There are more people imprisoned for the commission of drug offenses in the United States - close to 500,000 - than are incarcerated in England, France, Germany, and Japan for all crimes combined. Examined in another way, the United States has 100,000 more people incarcerated for nonviolent drug offenses than all the countries of the European Union combined, despite the fact that the European Union has 100 million more citizens.
