South australia inactive ID request

Habitat: Fresh cut lawn and plant mulch
Gills: creamy grey
Stem: ranging from very short to about 10cm
Cap: cylindrical when young, flat in old age
Bruising: untested
Other information: The clusters are incredibly thick, little mushrooms grow under medium mushrooms which grow under large mushrooms and so on. Im amazed at how many can fit underneath what looks like a single large cap on the surface.
I'm just interested in IDing these if possible and knowing if they are poisonous or not because they grow around where my dog runs and plays.
Thanks for any help.

From what I hear, they're not very good eating. I have no experience with them. Unless you are just craving mushrooms, I'd sooner go to the store for some yummables than to eat those. I know, I'm not very much help =P

Eat them while young, before any deliquescing begins. I have not tried them (yet), but some people do enjoy them in omelettes and such.
As far as cooking first goes, you really should do that with any mushroom. Many experts agree that mushrooms (even supermarket varieties) shouldn't generally be eaten raw. They are made of chitin (same as crab shells) and are hard to digest uncooked.
People have gotten severe intestinal blockage from raw mushrooms before.

Humans can safely metabolise some chemicals that dogs lack the enzymes necessary to metabolise. I wouldn't feed any mushrooms to your dog.

Slightly off topic, my aunts dog would disappear off in the woods at camp for hours at a time. He would come back to camp looking like he was drunk. Every time they went to camp. I think he found some mushrooms or plants that make dogs trip. Too bad the dog died before I could follow him to see what he was finding.

Died of old age, healthy. Not saying dogs should eat mushrooms, though. I just thought it was funny. He knew what he wanted =D I bet it was the Fly Agaric.

Yeah but he still might've been eating poison even though it didn't kill him. I'd be worried if I saw rex doddering about, but then, he only weighs 4.5 kilos.

Yeah, quite true. Fly Agaric has toxins known to be fatal to humans in large enough doses. I'd love to have a fly agaric sniffing dog, though!

my friends cat ate a half a pile of fresh subaeruginosa on accident once, didn't enjoy it at all.
elprawn cheers for your post, didnt think of it like that. I'm not going to feed him any mushrooms but these grow at the base of a tree where he runs around nearly everyday and I've seen him sniff at them while my back was turned just wanted to make sure they weren't deadly poisonous.
I never thought about the fact dogs cant even digest some vegetables that humans need in their diets. Best just to keep him clear of them, interesting to know there edible though (but not overly tasty haha)

Well, dogs have a great sense of smell and Coprinellus micaceus are common and widespread, so I'm sure dogs have evolved to either not want them or to digest them, so Fido should be okay. I wouldn't mix them into his chow, though.
