Capless Stems?
    #1458638 - 04/14/03 09:34 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

there are some normal mushrooms developing on cakes made of brown rice flour and verm. but there are a lot of what appears to be capless stems growing also. they are shaped like balls, not like stems, but they are the same color as the stems are... light brownish. is this normal? if it is when should they be picked?

My dawg had this also. It got to be a bulbous mass, amongst healthy mushrooms. He harvested at the same time his "normal" mushrroms reached maturity. They dried well aslo. Make sure you are free of contams though

These sound like fairly normal "growths". My friend experiences this every now and then. They're fine to eat and should have the same potency as normal looking fruit-bodies do.

thanks for the info.. also, if one of them has a dark spot on it that looks like it might be mold, should the whole cake be thrown away or could the piece with the possible mold on it just be taken off?

Is this dark spot bluish in nature? Harvest it and see if it spreads.
