Camden deputies seize suspected LSD, hallucinogenic mushrooms June 9, 2011 - jacksonville.com

A Florida felon had nary a whisker of a chance of avoiding arrest when he tried to sneak a cache of LSD and hallucinogenic mushrooms through Southeast Georgia.
Camden County sheriff’s deputies found the stash inside phony cans of Barbasol and Cheetos hidden in his backpack.
James Robert Trawitz, 38, of Orlando remained jailed Thursday on charges of possession of LSD and possession of psilocybin mushrooms with intent to distribute them deputies found the drugs in a routine traffic stop.
Deputies seized 32 plastic baggies of ground mushrooms, seven bags of dried mushrooms and two strips of LSD-soaked paper from secret compartments in the cans that were inside a backpack that Trawitz said was his, said Deputy William Terrell, a county Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
The case began when Deputy Will Woolard noticed a southbound silver Infiniti sedan weaving on Interstate 95 about 7 a.m. Wednesday. Because of the erratic driving, Woolard stopped the car. Gregory Heyman, 23, also of Orlando, was driving and Trawitz was a passenger, Terrell said.
Because Heyman and Trawitz appeared “inordinately nervous,” Woolard asked permission to search the car. When Heyman refused, Woolard called for a Sheriff’s Office police dog trained to detect drugs.
When the dog alerted positively, deputies searched the car and found the shaving cream and snack cans with false bottoms inside a backpack on the back seat.
Unscrewing the bottom of the shaving cream can, they found the baggies of powdered mushrooms and two folded pieces of aluminum foil containing the LSD-laced strips. They found the dried mushroom packets in false bottom of the Cheetos can, Terrell said.
Deputies issued Heyman a warning for failure to maintain the proper lane of travel and released him.
Trawitz previously was convicted of possession of less than 10 grams of heroin in Osceola County, Fla. He was released from prison on March 1, 2000, after serving about nine months of a 20-month sentence, Florida Department of Corrections records show.

The dogs handler probably just made the dog bark for some reason... that is enough of a "signal" to them to warrant a search.
Or who knows... maybe they can smell mushies

Mushies have a pretty hard smell close up, but this guy seemed to have it stashed pretty good. Hell yeah on the driving comment. More than half the battle of not getting caught is not giving the boys in blue a reason to pull you over...use your head Gregory Heyman!

The whole drug dog thing sounds like a load of to me. Funny how they can get permission to search your car regardless of whether or not they have probable cause.

Didn't one of the University of California's do a study that revealed that dogs were ineffective at detecting drugs and that handlers could force an alert? I think the defense lawyer might have to question the handler of the dog as to specifically what the dog was trained to alert upon.

Load of shit. If you refuse a search of your own vehicle, they shouldn't have any right to bring in dogs. And yes, dogs aren't effective enough to stand by in a court. But their fault for looking nervous about it. I wouldn't be driving under the influence either, that's asking for trouble.

You couldn't tell anymore, demons and man were related, and some would say the same, but who would like to claim? In time, Gods had even forgot, Demons, too, once love had sought. In times recent I remember, Once I was a man, In my heart I had an ember, I'll relate the best I can but it was snuffed, one distant December. And yet here I stand, no flesh, no bones, no seed or semen, All that's left is this Demon.

I don't hope anyone believes this to be true. The police knew he had drugs before they pulled him over. Weaving in and out of traffic isn't illegal as long as your doing the speed limit and using your turn signal. I believe they are listening to more phone conversations than we think with the patriot act still going strong. I have noticed fro friends being busted that the police are asking for phone numbers to anyone you know that sells drugs, because they are listening to the phone conversations and waiting to get the bust.
Call me tin-foil head if you want but I study this shit at school and don't ever think that the patriot act was just for terrorist it's for drug users, dealers and traffickers also.
If you care about your freedom and privacy vote for Ron Paul 2012 or you will see a true police state that's yet to come.

I didn't say random phone calls. The DEA collects phone numbers from drug addicts, dealers and traffickers. The they put these phone numbers in a data base and the phone calls are then recorded. When they start investigating a certain person they link all of these numbers together to see who's getting what from where and vise versa. For instance I tell Joe that I'm coming down next week with some shit and Joe tells everyone that he knows that some shit is coming into town, this information might get back to the police then they look at the phone numbers given to them by the informant. They listen and find out exactly what's coming and when and sometimes make the bust in so called traffic stops. Have you not realized that there has been 3 times the amount of interstate trafficking stops than the previous years before the patriot act came into effect. You can't tell me this isn't true because in some of my criminal justices class I'm learning different techniques that law enforcement are using to crack down on drugs.

I would definitely call into question what the dog is trained to alert upon. They don't mention any pot in the article, although dudes backpack may smell of it. Thats weird to transport bags of ground mushies. I have never seen them in that form for street sale. And if he did it to save space, why not all 1 bag of powder instead of many? Indeed, many things wrong with this story.

I have seen cops with my own eyes take a cell phone out of a persons pocket and start looking through it.
They go through your pictures and your messages and your phone #s
I've seen them look at text messages on a dealers phone and say"What are Big Dogs?" (Big dogs are large, high grade pain pills where I live)
I also know multiple dealers (meth, oxycontin, heroin, LSD & PCP) get busted and they all had been snitched on, usually they send a C.I (confidential informant) with audio and video devices in to make a buy with bills that they have the serial numbers written down. I have seen the motions of discovery. I definitely believe that they abuse the Patriot Act, truth be told, I think they were already up our asses with microscopes and recording devices years before that.
Don't ever talk your Bussiness on the phone and don't say shit like "hey man, got any bologna" using code is the same as not using code. Like they dont know what the fuck your talking about "Hey man remember that one thing you got for me the other day, I need 5 more"
