OVERHEAT? Need advice!
    #14576123 - 06/07/11 07:15 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hey guys I just received my spore syringe of "PF Classic" PF Tek spores saturday. I made my substrate out of BRF+verm+H20. Boiled them in a pot with water 1/3 way up the jars with no jars touching the burner for 90 minutes. Let cool 5-8 hours and then took them up into my closet for inoculation . Sprayed down everything in my closet with isubrotyl alcohol and wore a mask so i wouldnt breathe on the needle. Flame sterilized the needle between every jar to avoid cross contamination, but gave some jar too much of the spores  guess that wont hurt. But I inoculated saturday night and put my jars in my closet wrapped in a garbage bag in 25-28C temperature. Its tuesday night now and im already seeing small patches of mycellium on all 7 jars! Its my first grow and im hoping to be successful. Pics will be uploaded on this journey my friends, wish me luck

you are wasting alcohol doing this
built a still air box, its easy and cheap
water and soap will suffice to clean that .

no need for that  a spot with not much traffic like shelf and room temps will work

you are provably okay ,but a little reading can make things easy next time

good luck man

Yeah I tried to make my own glovebox for innoculations out of a sterilite container but it deemed to be too small. Alcohols cheap so I didn't mind but next time ill probably invest in a bigger glovebox for still air innocs. Everything seems to be going good right now though. Its only been 3 days since innocs and im already seeing small germinations of mycellium. Will upload pics of jars soon.

congrats! that's some fast colonizing shit.  I'm lucky if I can see spots in 5 or 6 days with spore innoculations.

How much does each cake usually harvest dry/wet? I'm going to be doing the dunk and roll method after they are fully colonized to increase flush size. and as a newb to growing these things I should try to make a casing for them? how much does that increase flush size?

a casing is not necessary.  if you want, you can crumble or grate them into a container or tray and add some bulk substrate (coir, poo, etc).  a search should turn up a tek for that.

a cake can yield anywhere from 1 gram to 8 grams dried material.  it's dependent on too many factors (humidity, fresh air, temperature, substrate, strain genetics, etc) to give a real number.

Brown strand looks to be running down mycellium. Thought to of been contam. Have separated from other jars till i hear back from ya'll

Just the 7th jar right? and i dont see green bro. im looking at the jar firsthand in the light and the only thing that screams contam is the brown streak.

I'll try. Im stuck using a 3.2 megapixel phone. In person my jars dont look wet. or green lol. Ill try some better pics of the 7th jar. Wish some more people would chime in though. The only thing im worried about is the brown on the 7th jars myceliium

Also, I believe the greenish tint of the cakes was caused by the reflection. This dark brown/red streak and the small darkbrown/red dot could be rust right? its right by an innoc point. I just need some advice puhleeze :frown:

is there any way you can take a pic without a reflection on the glass? its really hard to tell anything with that reflection on there

at this point, don't bother worrying imho.  the dry verm barrier should theoretically keep any bad fungus from spreading spores.  just wait and see if they colonize completely.  by then, it'll be obvious if there's a contamination (green, red, purple, or black splotches or general sliminess).  if something seems suspicious, then separate it from the others.

but there's nothing you can do other than wait and see.  if it contaminates, you can chuck it outside.  you won't really be able to "cure" it.  you can try, but you'll risk contaminating others.

dude dont u know the man can life your fingerprints right off the picture?? never put your fingers in a picture!!!

No I am kidding, I agree zydwiskwap I would just leave them be for a week or so and look again or you will drive yourself crazy staring at them wondering if they are contamed or not. If it is their is nothing you can do about it anyway.

I would suggest going outside and finding a spot to work with them out their in case they are so you wont have a total loss. I have a flower pot that bless's me about once a week

Still think contam guys? The jar that had the dark reddish/dark brown spot over the mycellium is coincidentally the jar that is growing myc the best. Check it out, still think contam?

Hard to tell but i think if it is contaminated it will grow at like 2 or 3x your other jars.
