While baked I had an idea that I've never heard of before.

So, you know how if humans don't dream, we go insane? Well, I thought what if we need 'reality' in a similar way? Perhaps there are many different plains of consciousness that we cycle through (like hyperspace)?

definitely a stoner idea. who told you that you go insane if you don't dream anyway? and could you go into a little more detail on what you mean by insane? if not dreaming actually did cause mental illness, what condition would that be?

Well, REM sleep is necessary for brain function. If you didn't have it, you'd die. If a person doesn't get enough of it for whatever reason, they can start going into REM patterns while awake, causing delusions and hallucinations.

Is shown in various studies that marijuana itself decreases the amount of REM sleep if not shuts it off completely if used right before bed. For myself and personal experience with using marijuana on an everyday basis before bed I can attest to the fact that for many years I ceased to dream or dreamt very little, upon stopping my use I noticed that my dreams started to come back in a major way.

According to some people, we exists on many different planes of being at once. It's our choice to be solely fixated on the physical.

To each his own that's for sure; personally I enjoy the non physical to much to give all my time to the physical.

It's pretty interesting... most of the time I waste my time of the petty physical things, but the non physical are just as real, perhaps even more since they exist on the fourth dimension and we are trapped in the third, here on earth.
