Yes more government. We need more government because they've proven themselves to be pure hearted defenders of the people.
How about less legislation protecting corporate interests and more legislation facilitating job production. Plz and TY.

I just read the whole bill. It effects piracy and overseas pill mills. It only has jurisdiction in the US. It penalizes search engines and sites linking to piracy sites and pill mills.
There is just 1 loop hole that they forgot about. There is nothing stopping anyone from setting up a server in china and starting their own search engine for pirated products and pill mills. All this bill effectively does is make anyone engaged in these activities have to move their operations overseas and no one will even miss a beet.
Nice try though uncle Sam.

You are wrong. The DEA thinks they have jurisdiction to attack servers anywhere in the world. The reason xxxxxxxx.com shut down was because of continual pressure/DOS attacks by the DEA.
Out government is completely out of control. The federal government thinks they have jurisdiction over everyone anywhere in the world. This is apparent with the plethora of illegal wars we are in. Obama is JUST as fucked up a globalist/imperialist type dictator as Bush was.

I agree completely, I'm all for repealing many laws, let the corporations go after those pirating their shit, if you use p2p shit and get busted by the RIAA/MPIAA then more power to them at raping you for everything but the government certainly doesnt need to be involved any further than registering trademarks, trade names, copyrights and patents

seems a little conspiratorial to me, of which they simply could have gotten better hardware, switched hosting, refused payment to their hosting until the problem is fixed, filed suit against the DEA, etc...
of course it couldnt be because of the many reports of people being scammed

I don't believe it was a scam site, I used it many, many times--with top results. I believe there is a lot of covert warfare by the dea, posting false scam reports, carrying out DOS attacks, etc, but the main reason that site shut down--and this is speculation--is that the US Government pressured the government of the other country to do something about it.

That and tor is a pretty good combo I'd imagine.
peerblock definetley helps but it only blocks 60-70% of all the ips that it needs to keep you safe. that is if you use the original blocklist that comes with it, some premiums are better but none cover all ips

By the way, for those of you who think this is only for copyright infringement, I believe that is incorrect. I have studied this document with a few others, and we believe infringement to be used in a context that means breaking any law, or providing anything whether it be idea or a physical object that can be used in a way to break the law. I do not believe this bill will be passed!

Agreed. For the most part I purchase all media I consume. Every-once in a while i'll torrent something especially if it gets leaked before the offical release date. Even though I am not depriving anyone of physical property it is still theft. Government should leave this alone and have the companies file suit if they choose to do so.

I don't think it will pass either.
But can you post the parts that make you and others that have studied it beleive it to be more than just a copyright infringement bill.
That's all I asked before.

That would be nice if someone could post that info. As far as I can tell it just looks like an expansion of what the DOJ did last year in seazing domain's.

well here is one part that led us to believe this. although we were taking it in as a whole document not just parts
1 SEC. 3. ENHANCING ENFORCEMENT AGAINST ROGUE 2 WEBSITES OPERATED AND REGISTERED 3 OVERSEAS. 4 (a) COMMENCEMENT OF AN ACTION.— 5 (1) IN PERSONAM.—The Attorney General may 6 commence an in personam action against— 7 (A) a registrant of a nondomestic domain 8 name used by an Internet site dedicated to in- 9 fringing activities; or 10 (B) an owner or operator of an Internet 11 site dedicated to infringing activities accessed 12 through a nondomestic domain name. 13 (2) IN REM.—If through due diligence the At- 14 torney General is unable to find a person described 15 in subparagraphs (A) or (B) of paragraph (1), or no 16 such person found has an address within a judicial 17 district of the United States, the Attorney General 18 may commence an in rem action against a non- 19 domestic domain name used by an Internet site dedi- 20 cated to infringing activities.
One of the reasons I thought, was because the definition of infringement in law is not always having to do with copyright. I have read over several cases from personal things, that mention infringement where no copyright has been infringed upon.

I think the real point here is that once/if this is passed that its only a matter of time before the cencorship becomes tighter and tighter.
The internet should be a no mans land where no one has the rightt to make restrictions. Thats not to say i agree with or advecate all the content it contains but its the princible of the matter.

I skimmed the whole thing, and from what I can gather, the purpose of this is to protect the assets of big pharma, more than anything.
Near the end it specifically mentions websites selling controlled or non-controlled prescription medications, as being "infringing" websites.

they can only be considered infringing if they are selling counterfeits such as the viagra fakes that were being sold several years ago, the bill defines infringing
(3) DEFINITIONS.—For purposes of this sub- 18 section— 19 (A) the term ‘‘adulterated’’ has the same 20 meaning as in section 501 of the Federal Food, 21 Drug, and Cosmetic Act (21 U.S.C. 351); 22 (B) an ‘‘infringing Internet site that en- 23 dangers the public health’’ means—
(i) an Internet site dedicated to in- 1 fringing activities for which the counterfeit 2 products that it offers, sells, dispenses, or 3 distributes are controlled or non-controlled 4 prescription medication;
