Mycelium vs Fruit bodies. Medical purposes?

So basicly my question is, if i'm growing some mushrooms for medicinal reasons only, would the myc have just as much medicinal properties as the fruit bodies? I'm growing out grain jars of reishi and shitake myc. I'd much rather not have to go throught the fruiting process if the myc is just as sufficient. Thankyou

That's like asking if you could take a capsule which encompassed all the nutrients contained in food, would you give up cooking, and sitting down to eat?

Haha, these aren't the only ones i'm growing, and im just getting started. I'll store the species for later growth too. I'm just getting started so I don't want to be all over the place. Any answers?

For reishi standard wisdom is that the mycelium contains nearly the equivalent of the fruit body but lacks triterpenoids and is therefore not as strong as the fruit body.
I do not know about shiitake.

But the triterpenoids are not water soluble anyway, so that would mean mycelium is just as good for tea. Some other species I know have mycelium with same or greater medicinal properties as the fruitbodies are Phellinus linteus, Trametes versicolor, Polyporus umbellatus and Cordyceps sinensis. I'm also not sure about the shiitake, but it's fruits, unlike all these other species, are great tasting, and really worth fruiting.

This is a good question, i am interested i what people think about this as well. To add to this discussion: If mycelium is used for meds what would be the best way to harvest it? I believe i read at some point to scrape the mycelium off the top of a colonized petri dish; but im curios about other harvesting methods.
