Dumb problem

I can't believe I made this mistake, but I just checked my jars to see if they were fully colonized (and by now they should be) and they're only about half colonized because I put too large a layer of vermiculite on top and a bunch fell down around the sides. All areas without too much top layer vermiculite have colonized successfully. Is there anything I can do to salvage these jars?

Sorry, I'm going to attempt to upload them in this post. The pictures are of the areas that have not been colonizing; the other areas are pretty well colonized and don't have much in the way of vermiculite fallen down on the sides.

you can keep the foil off during colonization. The verm barrier actually does a very good job of keeping contams out, so long as you don't shake it too much. My first time, I just had holes in the lids with no filter/tape. I had a dozen jars and no contaminants.

The problem is that its been over 2 weeks (in other attempts it has taken no longer than 2 1/2 weeks to fully colonize) and the areas which haven't colonized are the ones where the most vermiculite has fallen down on the sides. I'm concerned about whether they'll ever colonize.

Mine as well just give them long, doesn't mean they are gonners yet. If you want to start over go for it but they might still be good!

Take foil off and be patient. They look ok. Did u inoculate with ms? If so, results in almost every aspect wil vary.

If memory serves me best I may have used two different strains but I don't think in the same jar. It really looks like the problem is too large a top layer of vermiculite in all the jars. I'm very bad a gauging things like amount and distance, I have very low spatial IQ, must have been lower than usual that day.

I've got 16 jars that nocd about 2 weeks ago. Some are over half to 3/4 col. and some are just now showing signs of growth. Just take the foil off and leave them alone. The more you pick them up the more you will disturb the verm layer.
