Casing time

On average, how long should it take to see the mycelium on top of the casing? Substrate depth was about 3in and casing of 50/50 coco/vermiculite is about 1in. Its only been a few days but I would just like to know what to expect.

Theres a lot of variables and one inch is a bit thick IMO but you should see something within 4 days

Got a problem. So instead of misting with h202/water, for some reason I used bleach/water. It was about a 1:10 ratio. Do you think i'm screwed?

Why are you misting with either? plain tap water will do.If you just cased it I'd rinse under the tap and recase...bleach is not good at all for myc,and I would keep the casing thickness down to half a inch

cased it like 3 days ago, would it be ok to take it off this late? If so can I use just plain vermiculite and not add any coco?

Personally I would but its a tough call now,the bleach isn't good but I don't know how much is in your casing now plus using coir is nutritious for the myc so it could of colonized that.maybe uncover a bit and see how its colonizing

Thanks for the info. I took off everything that was loose. Looks like it colinized the coco a little bit and looks like all the broken up pieces of mycelium have colonized the grain alot more and have kind of fused into one big brick. There were 5 quart jaws of substrate. I added just a tiny but of vermiculite and went ahead and put it into fruiting conditions. I did this since i pretty much scraped down to the mycelium anyways. I hope i get something out of it. This was my first try at it, thinking now that i should have started with pf tek instead of jumping straight to grain jars. Do you think that is the right thing to do, going straight into fruiting after this little set back?

If it wasn't in fruiting conditions before then let it recolonize the new casing then put it in fruiting conditions

Be careful with that bleach brother, mark your misting bottles if you must to not get them mixed up. I think steel had some good advice on some things you could do to go about trying to save it or keep it going.

Good idea don,ive sprayed my substrate before with alcohol so now I have strips of black electrical tape on it.What a feeling though when you discover your mistake
