So one of my pins is still growing but it looks like it might be a mutie? It is getting a really concave dip in the middle and the base is big enough to support two mushies. Plus the lil tiny mushie that I said looks mature... The cap is starting to upturn and its not getting any bigger how long can it hang out till it rots cuz it has little pins attached to it and I don't want to kill em off.... And it has fuzzy myc on the stipe? Is this a bad thing cuz I thought that usually meant not enough FAE (which is impossible) or was it too much and something about moisture or lack there of?

babz89 said: I never said anything about misting 8 times a day that is ridiculous! I mist 3 times a day at most and fan about twice as much. Things look good I am excited that I made it this far and am doing this well for my first time diving into this hobby. I believe that, yes while I can probably do better, I am doing very well for myself and I will probably be enjoying the fruits of my labor very soon!
the more you grow, the more you will learn. as for the misting, isome times i got 1-2 days without misting, sometimes i have to mist more. u mist to keep the RH up and to cause evaporation of moister off the surface as a pinning trigger. i only mist when my RH is off, or its been a day or so i will do a light mist
if your weather is like mine and changes alot, it can be hard to get a good routine going. i have a SGFC and i fan 5-7 times a day. just an FYI the cakes i have now have been giving me problems with pinning so i left them in the fc for 3 days w/out looking at them. than i did a REAL heavy misting and made a small pool of water on the tops of the cakes and fanned for a good 90 secs with the lid. i put a small pool of water on the cakes till i see pins starting and than stop putting the pool of water on them. The last few days i have only had to mist 2 times a day and there pinning now on the top and sides.
hope this helps you, and just remember "different strokes, for different folks". just dont give up and after a few grows u will see what i mean. u will learn what they like.
ps growing when warm/hot is WAY different than growing when its cold, u just have to change the condishions to make them happy. and if ur about anything i said just shoot me a . hope this helps

my conditions are about 72-74 degrees F I cant read my RH (no hygrometer) But the ambient Rh of where I live is usually less than 20% unless its raining which doesn't happen often. My FC is on a dresser sitting on 1/4 pt jars for room for the SGFC to work. There are 7 cakes in my FC two of my cakes have 5+ pins on them some have more some have less I mist about 2=3 times a day fan about every other hour or so um I dunno what else to say...

you may be providing too much FAE...it's possible w/ ps. c.
fan 5 times a day & see how that does.

coolness just remember when its cooler they grow slower. i see a big diff in there growing speed from 70-75f to 77-80f.
IMO i like growing them at cooler temps.
also ur RH could be low because of the smaller mushies dropping there spores.
i saw this when i thought my RH was good but my cheap RH meater was worng, when i got the new one my RH was really around 78-82% when my old one said it was 98%
i fruit my trays in the SGFC at 85-90% and they do great.

cakes need 95-100%

dude, you've got to make the decision...we can't for you.
Pick it
or
Leave it

pick it if it's sporelating, leave it out to dry.
if the fruits are tiny, it is either because there is not enough humidity, or you got fucked on the random genetics of a multispore.
since we've discussed your fruiting chamber extensively, we can assume you have enough perlite.
I would try taping up a few holes in the sgfc, and see if that helps. and fan less.
you will get another flush, and you will be able to experiment on that one, and improve your techniques from the previous one. it's all about tweaking logically and learning from mistakes.

You can't have too much air exchange as long as humidity levels are kept up

Also by providing too much FAE you may not be letting the ambient humidity hit the cakes & cause evaporation through FAE...
it happened to me on my GH grows. My RH was constantly around 94-99% but since I was pushing so much air past the "cakes" I had absolutely no top pins.

I DO NOT OWN A CAM AND MY MOM IS OUT OF TOWN... PICS SOON I PROMISE!. And I want to take a stab at a guess as to my my mushies are small because I am noticing that other mushies are opening little too. A: my substrate is tiny (1/4 pint jars) B: my humidity is too low (though I have no idea how because everyone has told me I am over misting) C: its just genetics.... So can I eat tiny mushies? Or would it be a waste of my time?

So my mushies are staying pretty tiny. The biggest one I had to pluck only got about 3 in tall . However there are tons of pins now... I am hoping a dunk will help this problem and also the cakes are pining more on the bottom than anything so I flipped or turn on the side some of my cakes. I will be posting pics soon. Wonder why my mushies are staying so tiny...

My first flush on my first cake was the same way. Second flush (after I dunked a second time and made sure they didnt dry out) was better and with bigger fruits. I realized how dry it was when I picked it up after my second dunk and it was like 3x as heavy LOL
