a little concerned

I made up some rye grain jars about a week and a bit ago maybe 2 weeks.
Im a little concerned that are a bit dry. I know that's kinda the nature of them, but they seem to move around in the jars quite freely and was just wondering when i can hope to expect some mycelum to start showing itself?
I boiled them for about 20 or so minutes, and then drained. They were probably left sitting out for a little while before i put them into the jars and then PC'd

Could it possibly be from lack of hydration?

i soak my grain overnight b4 PC ing. ive never had a no show on the myc b4. you might have to start again. but keep that jar on the go just to see if anything happens. what does everyone else think?
(the other option could be contams. they stalled my last grow, but even then i saw something before it all stopped!)

it is cold here atm maybe there's a delay from that?
Should those grains be really moving around? or should they be a bit more wettish?
Can you just add some sterized water to the jars at this point?

Dunno if it makes a difference but i made these from spore prints. Scraped them into a shot glass full of sterilized water and sucked them up into sterilized syringes. made up 4 half size pint jars.
did all this as quick as i could in a sterlized enviroment as much as poss.

well the temp for reasonably good colonization should be between 65-80 deg f. i set my incubator at 76. you should not be able to hear the grains rattling, they should be a bit like cooked basmati rice, close but not stuck together. wetish. ish. idk if you can add water at this stage, id advise against it for fear of introducing contams. ive never tried.
no it makes no difference that you did it from prints. (you did leave the syringe 24hrs to re-yhdrate the spores didnt you?)

like i said, leave them alone for another couple of weeks, and if then still no sighs of life, its time for a re-think.

let things go a bit longer and can now see mycleum growing. Its still really too cold here to expect much but i put my jars ontop of tv settop box for heat and it seemed to work to get them going anyway. I had one jar that had a greeny mold starting, so i got rid of it, the others (holds Breath) seem to be ok at this point.

I say wait and see. Meanwhile make some new jars. Rye berries look dry, they are deceivingly beautiful in the jar. Boiling for 20 and letting 'em sit for a while is standard practice. I've let them sit for like 4 hours before with no problems. I wouldn't push it too far though, they will dry out just sitting in the strainer, but if that happens they look really really dry. All in all, i'd say, wait it out, relax, and just keep trying with new jars.
Also, was it a multi spore inoculate? Because that can take up to month to show up (sometimes) depending on this that and the other. Rye berries are the best spawn (imho) so don't give up on 'em. You know about coffee right?

Yeah i love it (coffee) hahaha, yeah just jokes. Um na, love to hear about it though, what's the go?
as for the spores, not sure on the multi's, never heard of it, might get you to elighten me on that too.
I cant really remember now what they are, im thinking Equador something or rather. Im pretty sure i tried to pick the strain that would fit my climate best, but i seem to be growing at the worst possible time, winter.
Unfortunately though, due my mother having clusterheadaches ive had to go for it now.
I do realize now though, that growing these little suckers, you need to give them the utmost of care and sterlie conditions which i would really like to get happening after this grow either works or doesnt.
So yup, keen to hear bits and pieces as they come to mind if thats cool?

Coffee along with just straight up water is used to soak rye berries. here's what you do: make a pot of coffee like you were drinking it, maybe a touch weaker, but not stronger that's for sure. And this is after you clean your berries. so you dump your pot of coffee in with the berries then match it with the same amount of water. Basically were looking for half drinking strength but i find that one pot of coffee plus its match in water is not enough so i like to put a cup or two more of water in. anyway, due to the antioxidants (not the caffeine) there will be accelerated colonization!
Don't forget your table spoon (or bit less) of fine gypsum (found at garden stores). It goes right in with the coffee. This also accelerates the growth of mycelium because it has essential nutrients that mushies love (sulfur, & calcium, i think that's right anyway )!
Then after that you're waiting 4-24 hours (any time between 4-24 is fine) for the soak. Following all that you know what to do.
If you follow this plus RR grain tek, you'll be golden! He doesn't mention the gypsum and coffee due to the idea of keeping it as simple as possible, but you're looking for speed and this is how you get it!
MS or multi spore mean spores from a print or (more likely in your case) from a syringe. When i asked multi spore, i mean did you inoculate from a syringe full of spores? If so, this could be why it's taking a bit longer than what you've may have read on these boards. Most people are using liquid culture or agar, where the spores have already germinated. It cuts like 1-2 weeks off jar colonization. Note: RR says that all LC is a waste of time, and i tend to agree except i use GLC http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6817701/an/0/page/0 basically it's nonnutritive so it lasts forever and of course it greatly increases your amount of resources.
last bit of advice, check this out: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/14360324
feel free to pm if you have questions, especially about rye berries. i've been doin them since i started this hobby like 2 years ago. good luck
