Ive become alcoholic..

Shit just sneaks up on you... Now that I think about it I must of been drinking for months. At least since Feb. Never without drink for more than 3 days apart, and it was nearly always moderate/heavy drinking... leaning more on the heavy side i'd say. Not at first though. Luckily there wasn't too much liquor thrown into the mix but theres definitely some...
Still. I just spent 2 weeks taking a break from alcohol pretty but now my weed is gone and I can barely sleep.. Took me almost 3 days just to fall asleep for a couple of hours. According to google results on alcohol W/Ds im in the minor phases of it. My hands don't quiver, the only thing besides that is insomnia. Mentally my emotions are all over the map but im very alert, im not in a kind of fog like you'd expect from alcohol. But every night is suicide suicide suicide and in the day it's like everything is good again.
How long does this shit take to go away? What's really is that Im shipping off to basic training in November for the Army and I still need to lose 10-15 pounds and be able to increase my endurance. Amazingly i'm still improving even with this horror going on, I can do more pushups than I could sober. But I still need to clean up fast. I don;t want to tell anybody about this especially the Army they'll probably want me to see someone or i'll get in trouble somehow
Can I goto the doctor and ask him to set me up on a benzo to ween me off? I will entrust the benzos to my mother so I dont fuck up. If you can do this do you see a regular doc or a shrink?
Or am I over exaggerating and should I just wait and see what happens ? I just don't see what could be causing such terrible insomnia. Months of alcohol use and sudden stoppage is really the only thing that comes to mind

coming from someone who has been addicted to opiates alcohol and weed and joined the navy. If you are miserable now just wait till you realize exactly what you have gotten yourself into by enlisting. But for real it takes about 6 weeks to get your brain chemistry rebalanced just stick with it and be glad you are one of the ones who was able to quit.

and by the way I swear quitting weed messed me up more than anything. I smoked everyday for about ten years and it didn't hurt as bad as the opiates but it fucked with my head way more. I know this because I quit it all one substance at a time. I would get angry at any little thing and I lost about 15 pounds that I couldn't afford to lose due to the loss of appetite. Anyone who thinks weed isn't physically addicting is in denial. Any substance that causes changes in your brain chemistry is going to cause imbalances when it is taken out of your system.

Ignorance. The military is a necessary evil like cops. As long as human beings are human beings we will need both. Enjoy your nice little western civilization that your military protects for you. Your lucky guys like him enlist so your government doesn't draft you.

Same here. My parents thought I was sick I lost so much weight. I'm not a big eater to begin with but I would always smoke before a meal just because it makes it taste better or whatever. And of course, when I quit, my body was use to being high when it ate so that really fucked my appetite up. Weed is a serious back-monkey
Anyways, good luck OP. I can tell you that exercise is key. Try to stay as active as you can.

Actually, true alcoholism in the deep stages is far more horrible than the Army i'll guarantee you, based on stories from other people and reading shit on erowid.
I'm no where near that, though.
And you should be glad a nice person like me is joining. If I were asked to fire on American civilians for whatever reason, social unrest, economy, whatever I wouldn't do it. And there are many more people in the military like that then you'd think if you look up oath keepers

There are a lot of good people in the military but there are just as many egotistical assholes with something to prove. I really didn't like my 4 years but I am really glad I did it.

to some comments here
the army will be awesome if you go into it positively. you can get away from a lot of things causing stress here, travel and look for a new life once you serve your time. it may seam like forever at first but always realize that youre moving forward.
those who fail to plan will plan to fail.
debating of joining myself..

It was good because you learn about brotherhood and unity. It was bad because you basically sign away you freedom. I was always afraid I would get in trouble for one thing or another. I got to jump out of helicopters and scuba dive in the Atlantic. I got quite a bit of quality pussy too when I was stationed in Chicago. If you score high on your asvab you can basically do anything you want from nuclear technician to special forces.
I would recommend it to any one who is single unattached and feels like there life is hopelessly fucked up. I learned a lot about how to take care of my self in this bitch of a world we live in.
If you are not single don't expect yourself our your partner to remain loyal.
The absolute worst part was dealing with the assholes. You are legally obligated to get along with and follow orders from people you wouldn't be around for more than ten minutes in civilian life.

yep. Exact reason I joined. I'm a fuck up and I depend on other people to survive(parent mostly and other people). My dad died when I was 18. I feel like thats when I really started messing up; mother was just blind to anything going on at the time. I could just go on any drug I wanted in front of her and she wouldn't know, at least for a while. Fact is im an undisciplined animal; I cant even hold a job at Wal-Mart.

Ooh I think I can deal with that. I'm the type of person that can just smile into an assholes face and be completely unphased by them. Not that im gonna smile at any drill instructor anytime soon I fully expect tons of psychotic assholes to deal with

If you can remember that basic training is psychological it doesn't bother you when you are being insulted and embarrassed. The best advice I can give you is memorize your general orders and get in shape before you ship off, it will be way easier if you do.

Wow this went from talking about being a drunk to recruitment in the military. Im pretty sure studies prove pot is not physically addicting. Its habit forming, but not addictive. That stinks that you think you drink soo much. Its not for everyone. I dont really drink. Id much rather smoke weed and trip. And the military isn't such a bad idea. Dont go there to run from your problems. Alot of people do that and come out of it was bad outlooks on stuff. If you join, join for you not the beer.

Actually you will find most people join either because they are insainly patriotic or their life is fucked up. The college reason is usually a lie due to the fact you can easily get federal financial aid now a days. But he is right about the drinking. I saw a lot of guys develop some serious drinking problems in the military so you may want to get your problem under control before you leave. I don't know about any studies on thc and addiction I just know what a few of my friends and I have experienced.

Whats your definition of alcohol addiction??...I think if your just having a few drinks a day that's not addiction that's moderation. Personally I think liquor can get you addicted very fast so I try to stay away from it as much as I can. I think if your drinking more than a six pack a day that's too much.
