Hey, it's Florida, a lot of people drive with their top down ...
The case of the half-dressed driver
June 6, 2011 - wptv.com
MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. - It could be argued that Keila De Oliveira Leite
did not keep a low profile while behind the wheel.
The 21-year-old woman crossed double solid lines in efforts to pass
traffic, traveled 20 mph less than the speed limit and drove around a
Martin County Sheriff's deputy who tried to stop her.
She also was topless.
What could be called the case of the half dressed driver began May 30
as a deputy caught up to a Nissan suspected of being linked to a fight
on the Stuart Causeway, a recently released arrest affidavit states.
The Nissan pulled out in front of several vehicles, causing them to
stop quickly to avoid crashing, the affidavit states.
A deputy saw the Nissan pull in the oncoming lane and start to pass
vehicles, crossing the double solid yellow lines. The vehicle drove
around another deputy who tried to stop it and traveled 25 mph in a 45
mph zone with its right turn signal activated.
Leite, identified as the driver, finally stopped.
She was topless and "argumentative" about dressing.
Leite is listed as having tattoos and piercings, but the affidavit
didn't state if she toodled around topless to display the body
customization work or list another reason for the apparent shirtless
adventure.
A female passenger also was in the Nissan. The affidavit doesn't
specify whether she was clothed, semi-nude or naked.
Investigators found marijuana and a pot pipe in a purse.
Leite, of the 3600 block of Southeast Gatehouse Circle in Stuart,
smelled of booze. She was arrested on charges including DUI, possession
of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A breath test measured her blood alcohol content as more than two times
the legal limit.
