Hi there, so last night my mates found some definite looking P.subs, they had done them before and I had a look at them as I have seen them before and confirmed as all had the distinctive blue staining, barky stems and caramel/gold tops.
However today while having a look around I stumbled across http://academic.evergreen.edu/projects/mushrooms/ifm/42.jpg which got me rather worried as the look exactly the same and are Galerina marginata which I was told can be deadly. If all the shrooms stained blue and have the barky stem will they be fine? Or should I be worried about this (I have heard Galerina marginata can also stain blue? Are they still poisonous if this is the case?).
The second problem that my friends have is they placed them all in honey in order to preserve them. The spot the mushrooms came from is a spot where p.subs have been found before and confirmed, they can't really be taken out of the honey to be observed and unfortunately no pictures of them were taken, I know the whole saying with shrooms is better safe than sorry but it would be such a waste as my friends collected about 200-250 of them, which, like I said looked exactly the same as the P.subs I have seen before.
Is there any distinctive markings that makes a clear difference between the two? Do they grow in the same areas?
Cheers guys.

Galerina marginata does not stain blue but the stem can sometimes be bluegreenish. Also sometimes the blue from Psilocybe subaeruginosa can rub off on other mushrooms.
Hopefully they dried the mushrooms before putting them in honey.
Even though they are in honey it would be easy to put a gill fragment under the microscope. If the spores have a germ pore they are not Galerina.

Hey there, they did dry them out with a fan and small heater on low, the stems on all of the shrooms were pure white, would this be a good indication that they are not Galerina marginata, also no microscope available.

The thing I am mostly worried about however is the number they picked, they got so many that I would think 10-20 of them might be Galerina's due to how similar they look.

Hey Alan just found http://blog.mycology.cornell.edu/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/galerina-dry.jpg a picture of yours of some dried ones, the ones that I saw when they had dried them all looked the distinctive gold shiny colour, do the galerina's ever go this colour when being dried or do they always turn that blackish colour?

I am not sure, I have never dried a Galerina.
Galerina marginata often has white mycelium on the stem which gives it a whiteish look, but when you rub it the white material comes off and leaves a darker mark.
If you are worried about it borrow a microscope and verify that the spores have germ pores.
