Fort Pierce - Savvy Subway restaurant diners found a way to buy marijuana when ordering from a variety of freshly-made specialty sandwiches at a Florida store. A Subway sandwich 'artist' has been accused of selling baggies of drugs to customers ordering 'extra meat.'
"Subway uses the term 'sandwich artist' to describe employees who create hundreds of sandwiches made on freshly baked bread, with fresh ingredients, in front of the customer to their exact specification."
According to a news release from the St. Lucie County Sheriff's department, Sheriff Ken J. Mascara announced the arrest of a Subway sandwich shop employee who was allegedly selling marijuana as well as sandwiches to people at the Hess convenience store Subway location at 1998 North U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce.
Mascara said, "Undercover deputies on two occasions used the code words 'extra meat' when they ordered sandwiches from Elizabeth Hunt, 47, of Fort Pierce, when she was behind the counter at the Subway Sandwich Shop. The 'extra meat' was a baggie of marijuana that Hunt slipped into the sandwich bag."
"After making "extra meat" marijuana purchases at the store on May 10 and 26, detectives obtained arrest warrants and arrested Hunt this morning at the sandwich shop," said the Sheriff.
"Hunt was arrested and jailed at the St. Lucie County Jail under $55,000 bond on two counts of sale and delivery of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a convenience store, one count of possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a convenience store and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia," said the police department news press release.
Elizabeth Hunt, arrested on drug charges. St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara arrested Hunt who was allegedly selling marijuana as well as sandwiches to people who asked for "extra meat".
Subway has not issued a statement on the marijuana bust but past circumstances involving Subway and marijuana has been met with forgiveness by the company.
In 2009, after Subway spokesman Michael Phelps was photographed smoking from a bong, a marijuana smoking device, Advertising Age said Subway was standing by Phelps.
"Like most Americans, and like Michael Phelps himself, we were disappointed in his behavior," Subway said in a statement. "Also like most Americans, we accept his apology. Moving forward, he remains in our plans." Phelps continues to advertise for the top fast-food chain.

ditto whats with the charge of selling within 1000m of a convenience store? I thought selling within a distance of a school was fuckin bunk.
I used to pick up nugs at subway, just ask for a Baked Fresh(remember the stickers) cookie. It got you freshly baked.

I'm pretty sure smoking it on your own time and dealing it from their store are viewed a little differently by management.
Selling to people you don't know is SKETCHY. And this plan was just stupid.
What if someone legitimately wanted "extra meat"?

That was the first thing that popped into my mind. I suppose the price for that "extra meat" sandwich might confuse someone who actually wanted some extra meat. Probably in top 5 stupidest drug dealers I've ever heard of.

Yeah I agree. They also had it on a local radio station from the news about how stupid she was. They said to at least make it some extra sauce or whatever, I can't remember, but people will order extra meat at a Subway.

For real, I wonder why she made the code word the same as an actual order. I would of made the code "make it extra dank" or something like that.

She could have been at least a little more clever with the code word. Instead of having your bread toasted, customers wishing to buy pot would simply imply that they would rather have theirs baked.

What the hell is within 1,000 feet of a convenience store? That's a big heap of bullshit. Yeah, it's super weird that she made the codeword something that I assume people who aren't looking to buy drugs say on a semi-regular basis.

Not long ago I bought pot from someone who worked at a Jimmy John's. I went there after hours and someone else let me in. I was led to a back room where the purchase was made in full view of people doing dishes. No one gave a shit. Those sandwich stores sure are corrupt.

I used to buy ecstasy out of a bar that I went to. Literally handed it to me in a bag over the bar. Sketchy ass shit.

Things like this have been happening long before Weeds was a TV show.
Some people at a pizza place I used to work at got busted for selling weed when people asked for "extra oregano" to go.

Oh, I know. It was just the first example I could think of. It really is one of the stupider dealing methods -- as this idiot proved, all it takes is (presumably) one user to rat you out to a cop when they get caught, and then the cops go undercover on you and you're busted.

But that's all it ever takes unless the person you're selling to doesn't know where you are, like if you're on the internet or changing street corners all the time.
