Drug bust: Mushrooms found behind
hidden walls, at jewelry store
June 7, 2011 - newsnet5.com
WOOSTER, Ohio - Police in Wayne County broke up a drug ring that they
said they have never dealt with before.
One suspect told them that he could make $1 million a year by making
and selling mushrooms, NewsChannel5 partner ONN reported.
Fifty police officers with the DEA, state and local police seized
thousands in cash, dozens of guns, and dozens of trays of mushrooms.
Investigators said some of it was found at a Wooster jewelry store.
“In my 40 years of law enforcement, I’ve never seen anything like
this,” said Wayne County Sheriff Tom Maurer.
Investigators searched seven homes and businesses in Wayne and Ashland
counties.
Behind hidden walls and in basements they found containers of mushrooms
“They grind mushrooms, mix it with chocolate and put it in a mold
shaped like hockey pucks," said David Smith with Medway Drug
Enforcement Agency.
Five people were arrested including the jewelry store owner Bert
Underwood and the alleged teacher of the mushroom cultivation crime
ring was Brian Brown.
Police said Brown's 67-year-old mother Illne Bennett helped make the
mushrooms so her 44-year-old unemployed son could make money. Her
husband couldn't believe his wife is locked up and charged with
cultivating drugs.
Investigators say more arrests and charges are pending.
I love how lawmakers & police basically say fuck God and his creations every single fucking day while they make laws based upon Christianity. bunch of fucking hypocrites.
This is the same place luring people to their town with craigslist ads.
It is a bumfuck town, and I garauntee its not a million dollar operation. dozens and dozens of trays? That sounds like a few pound flush everytime. Probably low end people making chocolates and selling them. That town just doesnt see anything like this so they are blowing it up. I can't believe it took 50 cops to get 5 people
