i'll quit my job if i ever get an offer for a better job someplace else.  but thats unlikely since most companies' starting wages are around $10-$15/hr. i'd also quit my job if my reggae band took off and i was able to make a comfortable living touring and recording with them.. also unlikely.

i love my job. my boss is cool as shit. i make just under $20/hr. and i'm already being groomed to take my boss's job when he finishes training me and moves back to his home state.  its the first job i've had with the opportunity for advancement, let alone the guarantee of advancement.

Hopefully in two years, when I move to the Middle East to teach English to rich oil business men.

That's when my Masters will be done.

My job pays jack shit and I hate it. I hate my boss, I hate the people I work with, I hate what I do. I hate every fucking bit about it. But I need the money so...

yep
I really need to get off my ass and find something else before jobhunting season is over.

And in the meantime I need to figure out a longer term plan, fuck. I'm almost 24 and still have no idea what I want to do with my life. Maybe I should just get some certs and find a cushy job as a network admin or something.

Longest I've made is a few years as a builders labourer.  Otherwise I'm a jack of all trades and change regularly.

I'm also a bum a lot of the time but what I did was put all my money in investments when I was young and working more so that I can be a bum more now

At one point I worked 3 jobs and put everything other than bill/food money into a fixed rate bond investment.  Its been sweet for the past few years being a bum though.  I only work a couple of days per week at the mo and the investments are ticking over nicely generating income

how can one pull off being a bum and handle life's financial expenses? this is what i want to know

The same way all the other parasites have done it - you get the others to work for you  top business owners, managers, financiers and bankers - they all do it the same way at the core.

I suggest starting a business and hiring someone to do the hard work for you.  Its difficult today cuz everythings monopolised but if you stick to labour like cleaning (or gutter cleaning as suggested is a good one) then theres usually always room for these types of dirty jobs.

A few years of graft and soon you can bum off the company.  Until you get there - live thrifty and invest wisely.

Mellow, well done amigo!  Its your foot in the door.  You will work up to better pay but doing what you want to do is a greater reward in itself.
