You need 4-5 inches of perlite on the bottom of your SGFC!

I didnt know it was so important as long as I kept it wet. I bought two bags and it covered only an inch and a half.
I guess I'l go get 6 more bags. Thats gonna be a bitch of a cost. I'm glad they're reusable.

I think you should be ok if you make it a priority to get more wetted perlite in there ASAP.

I found a huge bag for 16 bucks at homedepot, check the bigger hardware stores, I bet you'll have more luck.

Seanfu said: I have 22 pf cakes chilling spaced out in a shotgun terrarium. I only have an inch and a half of perlite though and no matter how much I wet 88 is the highest it gets. I have considered dropping the terrarium in a tray to make up for the bottom holes and covering several along the sides. I am going o remove the cakes and add wetted perlite soon but I am worried.
My Humidity gauge busted because of the heat too so now I have to get another one of those.
Fruiting has pretty much been a bitch.
1. An inch and a half of perlite is too little. Most growers aim for about 4.
2. Sacrificing GE/FAE is usually not good.
3. No matter which humidity gauge you buy, it'll most likely fail to read correctly. Only a select few work and work well, you'll have to search.
ADVICE:
1. Yes, add the perlite. 2. Case your next round. 3. Maybe think about a different growing chamber or humidity enhancer. 4. If all that fails, try switching to a bulk substrate. More nutes + more water = easier fruiting IME.

I saw another user post this idea. You can put the humidity gauge on top of a wet towel, inside a bag, for 1 hour. Whatever it reads is your new 100%, even if it says 80%

and you need holes on ALL SIX SIDES of your sgfc.
#1 reason for low humidity in SGFC is bad hygro as RR said.
#2 is you dont really have a SGFC but you think you do.

Never heard that before. Will try to confirm with a few of my old low tech ones compared to my newer electronic ones to see if that's a good solution. I know the electronic ones are right because they agree with each-other and with what i have seen during grows.

My cakes dried out to some degree. I have been misting them a lot. Will it hamper the fruiting because I let them dry? I am going to add a few inches of perlite today and try to remoisten them.

Can I remove some of the cakes with pins and dunk them and then gring em up and throw em into half pint jars to make use of them?
I didnt know if I could spawn cakes that were already in fruiting mode.
