Phoenix Lights revisited
    #14573978 - 06/07/11 11:31 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Note: this thread is REALLY about objective/subjective experience and interpretation.

This total non-event was covered on the History Channel. One man was adamant about what he saw. "I am not like the other people that saw the UFOs. I am an amateur astronomer. I focused on the orbs and could seem them clearly with my X power(?) telescope. The objects were pulsating (no, they wee flickering as flares do), I could see no support mechanism/parachute (from 30 miles away at night, it would be extremely difficult to see) and the objects did not just appear round, they were round! (almost all distant light sources appear round). I watched the objects hover (they were dropping continuously) for several minutes, then they just mysteriously disappeared!(I guess to many Arizonians, an object dropping behind a mountain range and being out of line of sight is somehow, mysterious.)

I bring this up because we go over again and again and again about the validity of subjective experience. Now if the observer had merely stated I saw some bright lights, then there is no problem, but he had to go much further. Of course others totally jumped the shark by concluding that these military flares could not be 'of this earth'.

The worst part was that many people, EVEN AFTER seeing the day and night videos superimposed that showed with 100% certainty that the objects dropped behind the mountain range, in the exact location of a military test range, still swore the objects were alien in origin.

Think that no one could be that retarded? There are about a hundred here (and a few allegedly intelligent mods) who still believe the Phoenix Lights was some sort of alien flyover. :crazy2:

Idk much about the Phoenix lights but even if that case is explainable, there are others that aren't.

Yes, some sightings have insufficient data to make any determination. What is your point?

I wasn't sure if you just picked out one really popular case as an example that UFO sightings are all explainable or something.

But I mean you're right, people get riled up and irrational when things like this happen.

Military flares cause irrationality - is that what you are saying?

Anything that a lot of people see that they don't recognize causes irrationality, that's why there are so many UFO sightings that have legitimate explanations. That's what I meant.

Who alleged that?

I don't think intelligence has ever been a criteria for being a moderator.  I think mostly they want people who are slow to anger and who are active in the forums they moderate, i.e. the dull and unemployable

These are new irrationality inducing flares being tested by the military.
